In Guild Wars, we had a system of multiple guilds joining an alliance, so that people that were in different guilds could join each others guild events. Since Guild Wars 2 gives us the ability to be in more than one guild, Alliances just seem like a no-brainer to me.

Is there a reason we don’t have this in GW2?

I’m not entirely sure where requests go. If this isn’t the right place, let me know.

Guild alliance is one ot the features I most miss at gw2. I think that it could be even more improved in gw2, by allowing an alliance chat, and also alowing us to participate in guild chat without representing (Multiple guild chat tabs).

This was supposed to be a launch feature of GW2, but got pushed off, and seems to have fallen way down the priority chart.

AngryJoe interviewed Colin about this and it seems it’ll be “considered” in HoT.

GW2 has taught me that being a Mesmer is about..
..being a cynical forecaster.
..being a doom-monger….and being a hopeless jinxer.

How would this work with the 5 guild membership? If I’m in Guild A, and they are part of a 5-guild alliance, then I can “join” any of those 5 guilds? Likewise for Guild B. So I could participate in 25 guilds? :O

First of all tell me, what exactly is the benefit of being in a guild in gw2? There is barely any content for guilds so I don’t know what we will do with guild alliance (Unless u specifically want it JUST for chating)……..I have not played the original Guild Wars, but from what others tell me, there was some amount of G vs G content (sumbody plz confirm ) . Here guilds are somewhat cosmetic (like much of the other things In game ) . I guess only TTS , some wvw guilds actually make use of ‘being in a guild’ . Now many of you may come forward and say that “No! Our guild does stuff together” but let’s face it most of the things are stuff u can do with the LFG system………

This game is called Guild Wars but there is hardly anything “Guild wars” :P lol in it.
However I hope the guild houses expected in the expansion changes everything ………

Most likely it would start as just a simple system where a Guild can join a single Alliance that offers an Alliance chat. Thus allowing easy cross guild communication for organizing things such as boss fights, WvW and other larger scale events.

This could be expanded to allow credit for guild missions, visiting of guild halls, and even shared influence gains.

First GW1 did feature a guild vs guild pvp mode and guild halls but that was mostly it.

Your actually quite mistaken about Guilds in GW2.

GW2 has exclusive guild content already in the form of Guild Missions, which offer a special currency oly attainable through said Guild Missions. Additionally many different upgrades, boosts, skins and WvW related advantages are avaialble for guilds to buy and activate. Additionally guilds are able to spawn Tequatl and Triple Trouble to face them as a guild on their own time. Though just being a member of a smaller guild, not part of leadership, much of this could go over your head.

Additionally HoT will be adding Guild Halls to the game. Also there have been rumors of HoT adding other new guild related content or benefits.

2001 game, DaOC, had alliances. It was a huge help actually for those that wanted a small guild work in tandem with larger guilds.

Furthermore, alliances also would help in RvR whereas one of the members claimed a tower, the guards actually would alert in /g or /a windows. Those doing other things not related to RvR would thus get messages to react and defend relics.

Oh, and patches later it also provided a means to earn more EXP or rewards when questing or fighting near claimed towers…

Johnny Johnny – Ranger (Ehmry Bay)
Hárvey Wallbanger – Alt Warrior (Ehmry Bay)

As a guild leader of a medium sized PvE guild, we struggle to get organized in doing WvW. Having an alliance system would allow our guild to closely team up with specific guilds such as a wvw one, and allow us to use their skill and resources to do more organized wvw as a guild together. At the same time other guilds in the alliance system would be allowed to use our skills and resources for things such as dungeon trains, fractals, guild missions, etc.

All that is really needed is the ability for a limited number of guilds to be able to share an alliance together, that allows them the use of a chat feature (just as it was in GW1) which will give the ability for anyone to instantly communicate with all members of the alliance. People will still be able to represent any guild they would like and whichever guild they would represent, would be the ‘alliance chat’ that they would see, read, and interact with.

The chat would be the most simple and yet the most useful tool that Anet could give the players. Not to mention perhaps the ability to visit other alliance guilds’ guild halls and other various abilities.

Couldn’t you just create a “Alliance Guild” and have members join that? When you want to do alliance events just have people rep the alliance guild.

Granted I can vaguely see why an alliance can be useful, but at the same time there is already a system that can allow for this. Unless they plan on expanding guild based content it seems more effort then worth.

That actually sounds more complicated than having a chat system. I see several problems with this. One is that officers and leaders will now not only have to recruit people into their guild, but then also remember to put them into the alliance guild. Second, is that depending who you are repping, you can still only see one guild chat at a time, and if you are repping the ‘alliance guild’, influence will go to that guild not your own. Third, it would be extremely hard to manage an alliance guild if one guild wanted to leave the alliance, it would be near impossible to make sure that everyone in that guild is part of the alliance that you created and not a leach/spy/whatever.

The current system that is in place in GW2 which allows players to join up to 5 guilds only actually helps the individual players, but it does not always help the guilds, especially the small to medium sized ones.

An important aspect to me, and I assume other leaders about their guilds is that players show dedication to the guilds they are in. By having an alliance system that integrates a chat feature would allow guilds to join alliances with other guilds in order to attain skills and resources that one guild alone might lack. An example would be a pve guilds allying with wvw guilds. In doing so both guilds can benefit by having players who do various parts of the game, and at the same time still rep their guild.

The effort was more from a devs standpoint then a players. You would have to rework rewards to apply to either or both alliances and the individual guilds, not to mention creating a hierarchy system within alliances so they can control the member guilds. Also there would be the issue to reworking the mega servers so alliances will be favored to gain the same instance in the same way guilds do.

It also means they will have to upkeep it with every patch and expand on it due to players requests. It doesn’t seem as simple as a new chat window.

One thing I do wish Anet would do in regards to guilds, is switch megaservers to include guild WvW. So you aren’t limited to server based WvW in a game where guilds are cross server.

E: To be clear, I’m not against the idea by any means. Just giving another perspective.
