For those of us who can’t log in every day to craft Spiritwood planks, Charged quartz crystals, etc. it would be really nice if these would “roll over” so that if we log in after an absence, we could craft all the missed items at once up to the total for the missed period.

The only way there’d be even a chance of that happening is if they limited it to a certain number. Or else people who have never crafted ascended items could just pop in and make entire ascended sets instantly, which would defeat the entire purpose of the time gate in the first place.

I could see this working in a limited capacity.

For example the ‘counter’ would only start once you unlocked the ability to craft that item (or maybe even after the first time you craft one) and then it only counts days when you don’t log in at all between the daily reset periods.

That way it’s drastically reducing any unfair advantage – people who start working on these items later won’t have a ‘backlog’ of unused ones to craft right away and if you log in and just don’t bother to craft one that days opportunity doesn’t carry over, it’s only if (as far as the game can tell) you genuinely couldn’t get online to do it that it’s saved.

the problem with this ofc is that the market would get flooded with the resulting crafted items, then the price collapses etc etc.

That’s assuming the absence is your choice.

If my work send me off on an over night trip, or a week long one, I can’t exactly say “sorry I can’t go, I’ve got to be home in the evenings to make part of an item in a computer game”. That goes double if I’m visiting family, I don’t think my mother would ever forgive me.

This could be an issue, but only at times when lots of people return to the game all at once after long absences. Like when a new expansion comes out.

Remember that all this does is remove (or rather reduce) the time gating limit. They still need to have the materials to craft it or gold to buy them with and if they haven’t been playing it’s unlikely they’ll have a huge stockpile of the right things sitting there when they come back.

So one person, or even a few on the same day, are unlikely to be able to flood the market and reduce the price. It would take lots of people coming back, making all the time-gated materials they can and then selling them to do that.

Only if it doesn’t start counting until you can actually craft the materials, and only if it stacks to a relatively low number. There is a reason that these materials are time gated, and if this isn’t implemented correctly it would destroy that reason

I’ve seen other MMOs do this to make dailies more casual friendly. In short, dailies would reset weekly, allowing you to complete 7 dailies per week. In some cases, the dailies would also be staggered so you couldn’t complete them all at once, unless you waited until the last day.

It all depends on why ANet implemented the time gate. Obviously, it’s a lot more convenient for anyone who hasn’t logged in for a while, but there are market consequences: those who login in a few times a week and are in a rush to craft ascended won’t be limited to purchasing from the TP; folks who login a few times a week who don’t want ascended could craft more —> both these things would tend to put downward pressure on prices.

I don’t know enough about ANet’s reasons for time gating that I’d be comfortable speculating as to whether this would ultimately be good for the game overall. I’m not opposed to making things easier for the weekend-warrior, I just think we don’t know enough about what else might happen as a result.

They can already pop in and make an entire ascended set instantly if they are buying the materials from the TP.

One of the reasons for the time-gate was to give crafters a means to make a profit. This would undermine that.

That’s not a bad solution. It still limits people to 7 per week.

Your asking for more, because you play less.
Wouldn’t it be more specific to your issue to try and get your employer to allow you more game time, than to change the game for everyone because of your specific limitation? Actually crafting the time gated item is faster than doing even one daily.
There are a number of valid reasons for crafting time gating.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. There are days when I can’t find the time to complete dailies and can just craft what I need. Park a character at the station, log in, do it, leave. If nothing else it’s not actually a loss since if you don’t log on for a day you’re not losing the day you didn’t play because you didn’t play that day.

Agreed, except I would go 6 or 7 (a week’s worth). 5 would cover Monday through Friday, though.

I think the time gating is to preserve a certain price threshold for the crafter, so that after crafting the ascended gear a player needs they can make a little profit from their craft.

I would want that to be left intact, so I don’t agree with the request. I put in the time to craft what I felt I needed and now (finally) am able to make a little bit of coin for my efforts.

But if the price deflate everyone wins because the price to craft ascended items and components decreases which decreases the overall cost of crafting and building crafting up to that point in general since the materials also decrease in price as a result. The fact that you can sell the insignias but also that there is a way to easy transmute any ascended item to another set of stats without creating an ascended insignia is where you would gripe if you wanted to make money since the most cost effective option is to buy or create the cheapest insignia and then for a fraction of the cost just buy the exotic version of what you truly want.

It’s already been subverted basically. I’m pretty sure monetarily you always lose if you’re crafting ascended items for money on purpose since it takes so long and so many materials. If you just so happen to have the stuff though it’s nice coin but nothing to write home about.

The suggested change would essentially remove the profit margin. It’s the T7 mats which you craft that provide the profit. This has been common knowledge since 2013 so I don’t know why you had to bring up the insignias.

I could be totally wrong in my assumption, but not really sure what other reasons there would be for the time gating.

I’m pretty sure it was just to make it feel like a “journey”. You couldn’t do it in a day. Useful for the earlier days when people had 2.1 trillion gold and nothing to do with it; you could buy your way through the materials but not the time. It’s the same reason why some armors and weapons are not salable even though their recipes are. Now that’s changed to some degree but beyond needing the crafting skill level (which can again pretty much be purchased with gold) you still have to either buy the materials or do a legitimate set of cycles.

They just didn’t want you to build it in a day like you would with exotics and some Ascended backpacks (quivers) where you could just buy your way through it.

I don’t think the Anthology of Heroes existed until late 2014/early 2015 or so which means that you had to have the insignia you wanted. You could not change the stats on the armor after building it. The insignias were a lot more meaningful then but because of that change even though they maintain their value they actually are easy to subvert like the fulgurite thing.

Interesting idea, though personally I wouldn’t put this up as a top priority item.

Pros:
- it makes crafting more flexible (I wouldn’t go beyond 3 days though meaning you could at max create 3 of an item after 3 days)
- it would increase supply of ascended crafting materials

Cons:
- increased supply of ascended crafting materials would reduce the gold earned for crafters per item
- volatility of the market for t1-6 materials would increase also overall price might increase due to more demand
- might negatively impact player activity since less loging on can lead to less player retention (assuming recurring logins help retention)

I have to sorta side a bit with the “if you can’t space 5 minutes per day” crowd. It’s not that big of a deal even if tedious. That being said, if the “roll over” stacks are not to high, it should be okay.
