[Request]System to trade Airship Pass.
This could lay the groundwork for easily exchanging these types of items in the future as well.
That sounds to me like the surest way to prevent this idea from gaining traction. Why would ANet volunteer to reduce potential future sales by offering players a way to avoid spending gems on the latest shinies?
The permanent airship pass was a very cool item when it was released. It consolidated all the things we lost when Lion’s Arch was destroyed and gave a free teleport to the new congregation area for the community.
Yes, it consolidated all the things that were available in the Royal Pass and in LA, offering a different location (that happened to also be close to the temporary hub).
After the revival of Lion’s Arch it has essentially turned into a “Random Map Pass”.
No, it still offers all the consolidated features. And, for some people, the fact that there are fewer people around is a bonus.
A way to trade it for the Divinity Reach pass would be awesome.
Sure, as would the ability to trade excess salvage-o-matics or infinite-use harvesting tools.
In other words, it’s not going to happen because
- ANet’s practice is to treat last year’s purchases as already amortized, that is: we’ve already received fair value for them.
- Setting a precedent for exchanges undercuts their ability to sell gems.
- The actual value of this item includes many features, only one of which is the location of the airship, which is a positive for some.
That said, this is one of the few items for which I would support a major upgrade that existing owners wouldn’t have to purchase: move the heirship around among different maps. Perhaps 4 different locations cycling quarterly or 3 locations randomly changing on the 1st of the month.
(Disclaimer: I do not own the heirship pass myself, so I wouldn’t benefit from this.)
When the Airship was released, it was part of the LS and the fall of LA. I bought the pass with the assumption that when the story continued it would travel with the story. When the camp under the Airship moved I realized mayhaps I had a pass to a stationary location. Anet never said or gave me any reason to believe that it would move. But it did seem logical for an Airship that had flown in could possibly fly away.
One of the lessons I’ve learned is to be careful what you wish for and I can imagine several locations I’d rather not be parked over. So moving would be nice but I’m not sure I’d want to swap it for a pass to DR.
I’ve always thought that the airship would move, ala the Wintersday ship that flew from city to city, or something like that.

I bought the pass with the assumption that when […] it would […]
It is naive to assume something for a product, if it is not included in the product’s description. Buy things only with the assumption that the thing includes exactly the features that were documented at that time, and nothing more.
Since its release, the airship pass includes exactly the features documented in its mouseover popup. Nothing less, nothing more. The game has changed around it, but the pass and the airship is still the same.

/doh – Which is exactly why I wrote " Anet never said or gave me any reason to believe that it would move." I like the my Airship Pass. I use it regularly.

I love my airship pass. I don’t see why I should want to change it for something else, much less for a lame Divinity’s Reach one.
Only fix the “Havoc’s Heir” NEEDS is to tone down the steam leaks sound.
Anything else would be a very welcome improvement: changing the ship location randomly would be awesome, and allowing you to travel back automatically to your previous location will be magnificent.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

I just wish the airship was an instance so you could return to your point of origin and it could directly drop people off at Fort Trinity and Camp Resolve since they both have airship ports. I’d like to see them add visible airship docks to all cities where it would drop people off at. In Camp Resolve they could set it so you could ride up the elevator to the airship platform. I think all of it would add value both to the game and of the pass on the gem store.
The airship pass has much better loading times than the royal pass, by the way. They both have their pros and cons.

If they did that I’d buy one in the morning.
