Across the fora I have seen several posts about new weapons and classes. I believe it may be nice to absorb them into a single topic, so that we can have one civilized structure instead of a hundred points spread out like butter. So I have taken the liberty to amass the most commonly requested things.

rules I want this topic to remain civilized at all times if we are to use this as a central point.

1. Two Handed Axes
Especially for the warrior, this weapon has been requested a lot. I personally understand why you would want this type of weapon. I can also see ANet’s difficulty in making it. For how do you make a Great Axe that is in use different from the Great Sword. A Great Axe’s signature would be cleaving (wide attack range) which the Great Sword now already has. If you wish to discuss the Great Axes, please be clear in your topics

2. Spears, Polearms and Scythes
These kind of weapons were loved back in GW1. Used by the Paragons, Dervishes and whatnot. These would allow heavy classes to attack in a medium range. Whereas the Scythes would propably rely on one-on-group battles. If you wish to discuss these weapon types, please be clear in your topics

3. Heavy Class
There has also been a lot of asking for a third heavy class. I have taken upon myself to design this idea:
The Lord.
The Lord as a class will be a heavy class that specializes in brute display. They can only wield two handed weapons or a spear/shield. They prefer to fight at a medium to close range, and will have the ritualist, paragon and dervish imbued. In their schools they will either use magic to enchant their weapons or those of allies, summon the spirits from ashes of famous heroes, and can spiritually connect to the Mists.

4. Existing Weapons to Classes
The following weapons have been wished actively to be moved to certain classes.
Pistol to: Necromancer
Axe to: Guardian, Elementalist
Hammer to: Engineer

I would like to use this forum as a central post to discuss weapons and classes. If you have ideas, suggestions or otherwise, please share them here. The only request I can make is to always remain polite, give structured feedback WHAT and WHY you want something, because when you only say WHAT you want, ANet is less likely to listen.

Existing weapons to classes could be very cool, id love it alot and a 3rd heavy would be magnificent, a simple thing as 1 new class could make a huge improvment to the game, and i know its not easy “just to make one”

I’m not sure if the Lord concept is sufficiently different from a Guardian, as Guardians already fill that buffing/temporary summon/support/short-medium range role.

In order to make a distinct class, I think we have to look at what’s available in other professions, but is not available to Heavy classes; with that said, I think the two most distinct class mechanics that are available to Light and Medium professions are permanent pets and skill swapping:

  • Engineers and Elementalists share the same concept of sacrificing an alternate weapon slot for the ability to swap kits/attunment on the fly.
  • Rangers and Necromancers share the ability to have permanent-until-disabled/killed pets.

So to translate those into a Lord class, it might look something like this:

  • A kit/attunement Lord would have only one weapon, possibly limited completely to two-handed weapons (greatsword, hammer, staff, longbow), but in exchange he can switch between styles (would have called them stances, but warriors already have that) that switch combat skills between Offense, Defense, Support, and Control.
  • A pet Lord would have alternate weapon slots (but still limited to two-handed weapons) and have a permanent entourage of soldiers (collected like you would pets, but you have to recruit them in forts/castles across Tyria) that he needs to summon using utility skills (like the Necromancer).
  • Or just have the Lord use both mechanics, attunement-style combat skill switching with necromancer-style minion summoning utilities.

Of course I have no idea how this would be balanced, but this is why I’m not a game developer.

The Lord sounds like a Guardian with more spirit weapons. My Guardian would like to dual wield Shields, and my Warrior wants pistols. Longbow/Shortbow would be cool on my Elementalist, and so would Greatswords.
