Reserved names unlocked: a polite but unhappy response
I’d like to point out they originally said names would be unlocked after the head start.
So you’ve had plenty of time, months even.
Yep… originally, you only had one or two weeks after launch to reclaim your names in GW2. They’ve given you a lot more time than that. It sucks, but I doubt there’s anything you can do.
The other thing you can do is trade gold for gem’s, not sure what the current trade rate is though.

To say that we only have a weeks time is not valid. We were all told that we were only going to have 24 hours after the launch day to take our old character’s names. If you didn’t do it then… well you have hand weeks and months to do it by now. I personally (and yes I am a GW1 player) was hoping they would have done this sooner.
You have had your time to get the names you want and also keep the names you had. Complaining you have had 2 months to figure out which names of all the names you have between launch and GW1 just sounds greedy.
It’s important people know that the actual deadline has been announced.
Before it was the every-ambiguous “Soon™” (or actually I think it was “shortly after launch.”)
How much is a character slot running these days? 6-7 gold? I know that’s not cheap, but it is the 3rd month post release.

To echo the other responses. I had names I wanted to save and when they said they would be released a few days after game start, I made sure I had all mine. The fact that they took along time I figured meant then had issues. I definitely agree with the poster above that stating you’ve “only been given a weeks notice” is not being true at all. You were actually given a few days but waited when nothing happened.
As stated this was announced ages ago. And…do you REALLY need 15 names reserved? Isn’t that a wee bit excessive and maybe even greedy?
I am laughing in everyone’s face that is complaining about this, or that complained about the fact that names have been reserved up to this point.
First off, people were pissed that names were going to reserved from GW1, and oh NOES that’s not fair. Those people probably don’t even play anymore, and “I want to make my characters during head start but someone else has the name reserved in GW1 already, so now I can’t play”
Then there were the people that couldn’t play during the headstart, complaining that those few days was not long enough to get their characters made and that they deserved to have their names reserved for longer.
Then we have the folks that two months later are complaining about the fact that names are still reserved….
And NOW, we have more people complaining that they have not had enough time to make their characters with their reserved names, and that another WEEK is not enough notice.
I am overly disgusted with this community. I wish I could punch every single person who has complained about name reservations in any aspect. That would be the only way to vent this anger.
ANET if you read this! Never do anything nice for the community again. kitten US, we don’t deserve it, and all we will do is complain about it in every possible aspect.

I think the time’s right now. On the other side are players waiting for the release of the reservation since head start because they had 2 GW 1 Accounts and only could use the names of 1.
Or there are names reserved which will never be used by the original GW 1 player.
And the original message was: “1 Day after Launch-Day” not a few days or weeks. 1 Day ! So people knew that names will be released and had plenty of time to get them.
As stated this was announced ages ago. And…do you REALLY need 15 names reserved? Isn’t that a wee bit excessive and maybe even greedy?
Someone I know has 9 fully geared-out GW1 characters. Guildwars is a game that encourages alts because of limited advancement, so you make alts for replay-ability.
She doesn’t want to play all of them anew in GW2 at this time, and likely never will cuz she’s not loving GW2 as much as the first. But, she’d rather not have the mistaken identity of someone else playing an echo of what is her GW1 identity.
you’ve had two months beyond the original plan to do it. i made sure that my character was created ASAP.
Is started playing about GW2 about a month ago, and I didn’t know the GW accounts would EVER come to a head so I had no reason to find out if they had. Nothing that I read anywhere told me about this.
So you could definitely say I didn’t research it: That’s totally true, but not the point at all.
So, you can say that I’ve had X amount of time all you want, and miss the point of my post completely if you like. I probably didn’t help, what with my rambling and all. Look, I’m doing it again.
To simplify my point: “It’s happening for sure in a week” is not as useful to me as “It’s happening for sure in 2 weeks.”
I don’t want all 15 reserved, just 2 more than I currently CAN.
Also, I couldn’t really justify spending the money on the slots until Time/Names thing became an issue.
If you’re going to roll your eyes at me, at least get the reason right.
Welcome to GW2.
Let me get this right. You have 15 character slots in GW, and the names are important to you (well, at least two more names). You want the privelege of reserving all 15 names, however you are unwilling to pay to utilise 7 names, in total, let alone all of them.
Sorry to bang on about research, but if you had done any you wouldn’t feel entitled to your names, given you’ve joined the game probably 2 months after launch. Feel thankful that any of your names were reserved at all.
Am I the only one who thinks that they should have warned us that the names were still reserved? I though that they were lost 24 hours after launch, as they said in blog, and only found out one week ago that, for some reason, they still were reserved…
Actually, people were reporting the reserved names as a bug, and support didn’t know about names not being free…
That’s the reason I haven’t been able to consider to buy more slots to keep my names: I just though they were not reserved for me, because nobody said they were.
Edit: I understand your point, but if it was that important to you, a simple search of ’Guild wars 2 character name reservation would have yielded you this

Let me grab the part you want
’ What happens if I don’t reserve the name before the name reservation list is build, I don’t link my accounts, or I don’t use the name by the end of launch day?
After launch day, all remaining names will lose their reservation and become available to all Guild Wars 2 players.11 ’
You are lucky you even have a week to grab your name because you didnt do your research

With all due respect. I remember at the LAUNCH of guild wars 2 they said that reserved names would be reserved for like 1 week or something then they would all be up for grabs.
I was VERY surprised to hear a couple of days ago to learn they hadn’t done that yet, and its like 2 months into the game. My response was ‘Uh didn’t they already do that ages ago?"
They extended it i believe to get through the wave of support tickets first.
You have had 2 months notice by now. Just because you didnt read the news articles at the start for info on what was going to happen (considering this was important to me, i read everything) does not mean its now Anet’s fault you didnt plan ahead.

People had months to claim their old names. How long would be reasonable in your opinion? Half a year? A year? Two years? If you were so eager reclaiming your former names, it would have been reasonable to check for information. I do not see any reason penalizing active new players by withholding names from them former holders didn´t care enough about to get things going for two months. I know blaming anet for everything going wrong in the world is rather en vogue around here, but imo, the only person you have to blame here is yourself.
If they’d released the reserved names when they said they were going to, you would have had no chance to get them before they were open to everyone. They didn’t have to give us any advance warning considering this is something they said they’d do two months ago. But they did give us extra warning. Sorry, but you have nothing to complain about here. ArenaNet isn’t responsible for your financial situation, and can’t alter their actions to personally suit you.
I appreciate your response being very polite and that you are unhappy, but I agree with everyone else here.
I am getting quite frustrated with the community on these forums, I should probably just stop visiting them, but it seems every problem people have is that they want the game to be their way.
What people seem to be forgetting is that this is ArenaNets product, they run it how they want, if you don’t like it then don’t play. You aren’t paying a subscription, they essentially owe you nothing, GW2 can be considered to be a game you would buy for a console but with online functionality, yet people still seem to act like they are entitled to all sorts of privileged treatment.
Posting your problems here isn’t going to help, if you are low on cash then borrow some from a friend (although this seems incredibly petty for reserving character names, which are pretty much meaningless in the greater scheme of things) or just accept that you may lose them.
Think about it from the other side, do you know how hard it is now to create a character with a name that doesn’t resemble rolling ones face on the keyboard? Pretty much every sensible name has been taken, and a lot of those are probably reserved for people like you who probably won’t even use 15 characters.
tl;dr suck it up
1/ the deadline actually expired months ago.
2/ you have to buy gems with credit cards. Credit cards expire monthy so with your 14days paycheck it should work out. Even so you can acquire debt on your credit card if you’re willing to pay the interests WHICH I DON’T RECOMMEND!
3/ you could risk losing the names if they’re not so common like Uzumaki Naruto, Justin Bieber or equally lame pop culture rip offs.
4/ PM me a name, I’m willing to store one of your best names for the next month because I have a free slot. When I delete it, 24 hours later you’d be able to make a char with the name. This is a trust issue, I know but I promise I won’t hold your awesome name hostage nor spoil it’s reputation.

Southclaw, where did you read that your Guild Wars name would be reserved in Guild Wars 2?
Everything I look at about reserved names indicates that the reserve period would end shortly after release of Guild Wars 2 so I am not understanding how you managed to find out about keeping your name without noticing that the reserve period was supposed to have ended two months ago.
