I just started up a new account today, but my ability to purchase gems is not there to do. Keeps telling me there is an error and try again later, but it works fine on my main account.

I wondered, could this be a glitch or… am I restricted from purchasing gems until a certain level?

There is a cool-down on new accounts regarding Gem purchases. After a certain amount of time, new accounts can purchase Gems.

No, that particular information (or any of the cool-downs that apply to new accounts, only) is never released.

It probably is not too long. Just there to help deter those of a nefarious nature.

Thank you! I don’t imagine it would be any longer than the Guild Bank restriction is, for new members, which is 3 days, and I understand why that restriction is in place.

I understand why this restriction would be there too for the gems, there are far too many people out there with other agendas for their game accounts.

Keep in mind that there are some issues with Gem purchasing, at this time, as well. The fix instituted has alleviated the problem for some players, but not for all.

Hopefully, your alternate account won’t encounter any problems. =)

One thing I heard is the new account restrictions have something to do with preventing CC fraud. It suppose to help prevent people who open a GW2 account with stolen CC info from then using the CC again or another stolen CC to buy gems, convert them into gold then sell the gold for real world money. Usually it takes 3 days or less for a bank or the company that issued the card to inform the card holder of “suspicious” charges hints the wait time in-game.
