Q:

A debate is going on among my guild regarding Retaliation and damage taken. The question is: the reflected portion of damage affects the target or is subtracted from the total?

To be clear:

From the wiki:

Retaliation reflects damage based on level and scales with power, increasing damage by 1 for every 13.4 power. At level 80, base damage is 267.

So, ignoring all the others factors, if I have 916 Power and someone hits me for 268 dmg:

267 dmg are reflected back and I take 1 dmg
OR
267 dmg are reflected back and I take 268 dmg
?

A:

Retaliation is a damage shield. You still take the full damage. You give (“reflect”) a portion of that damage back.

Hope that helped.

it’s exactly as the Wiki states, you return a certain amount of damage depending on your power, you still take full damage from any attack.

Retaliation is incredibly strong for example when taking multiple sources of really low damage over 1 big damage spike.

Will Retaliation return damage even if it’s blocked. Guardians utilize both Ret and Aegis often. So if a spike is blocked with Aegis, will it still return the damage?
