No changes have been made to retaliation that I know of. Note that several updates ago PvP/WvW and PvE damage were split, could that be the difference you’re seeing?

nop, yesterday i was doing 331 retaliation damage and today after the patch just 221
i just tested again and is weird, in any map wvw i do 333 retaliation damage but in Eternal battleground (only this wvw map) just 221, eternal battlegroundhas a special debuff?

I’ve seen this mentioned before, in the WvW borderland maps retaliation still does full damage, but in EB it properly scales down.
It’s kinda buggy for me too. It sucks having a retal guardian. Maybe it’s affected by might?

yup might increases both Power and Condition damage so it dramatically increases the damage
yesterday was doing like 330 damage per retalation and now is like 221, was ninja nerfed?

Also keep an eye on your gear if something broke then your damage would ve dropped considerably as well.
Oh I thought retaliation mirrored damage back to the source. I didn’t know it was a flat amount.

I can still feel the pain of retaliation on my thief. Yes attacking enemy who is not attacking back. Yes, wait stop attacking before i die!
Everybody knows retallation is not nerfed in borderlands only in EB but only DEVs dont know this.

it was PVP/EB not for other borderlands.
ha try being a grenade engineer in a wvw zerg with what seems to be unlimited retal going on. its not fun after a grenade barrage followed by all my grenade cooldowns

No. If you get killed by retaliation it is because you are unaware and kill yourself on it. If you see you are getting hit by Retaliation, stop attacking, or swap to another weaponset to wich Retal is less painfull.
It’s kind of the purpose of Retaliation, making the attacker pay for attacking you. The way it is right now, is good. It’s a boon worth using because it has a noticable effect, yet it’s not overpowered. If every class would be able to easily outheal retaliation, it would become a usekitten on.

you chose to be glass cannon like everyone else that seems to run thief theres your consequences.

If you wanted to “punish” glass cannons properly…you’d make them do damage based on a percentage of the damage the attack deals, and also you’d make it only trigger once per attack (somehow?)
Who it really punishes is people who use AE attacks, glassy or not. And in a game where AT THE SAME TIME, people are debating how AE power needs to be increased…. I mean get your story straight!

Got to quote this. Flamethrower’s autoattack gives quite a good example about that…extremely weak and extremely harmful for the user if enemies have got retaliation (since you get up to 30 hits in a couple seconds).

erm yeah confusion dmg is not affected by the targets toughness….its more the button spamming thing that kills u…or used to kill u. unfortunately that has been destroyed already. retal is ok the way it works i think

Retalitation singlehandedly makes Ranger longbow horrible in WvW.
In a single barrage you are losing about 40% of your health, and since it’s a cast time and the aoe channels by itself after a short cast you will get hit by multiple counts of retaliation and can’t do anything about losing nearly half your health.
Retaliation in its present state is horribly broken and punishes the many small hits more than few big hits. Flamethrower and Barrage are perfect examples as to why Retaliation should be changed.
Instead of dealing a flat amount (+power) of damage that ignores armor it should actually reflect a portion of the damage back to the attacker!! That way lots of small hits deal lots of small bits of Retaliation damage whilst few big hits would deal larger bits of Retaliation damage.

The worst I’ve seen is elementalist tornado skill versus someone with retaliation. The ele generally dies before they can cancel the skill.
This def needs addressing. No wonder I have been dying in WvW a lot more now, every boy and his dog uses retaliation since it shows the damage splats now and as someone else said NOT good for those of us with fast attacks such as the Flamethrower.
Should be based on the opnts power of attack and not how many attacks…
Retaliation needs a 0.25-second inner cooldown. That’s about it.
Or they could replace it with a boon that doesn’t reward morons for getting beat on. I can see it used in group play, strategically, but it should be actually made strategical. Returning damage while in X zone of effect or whatever. Confusion is okay, because you can cleanse it from yourself. But retaliation is more or less the same thing, except there aren’t nearly enough boon stripping options in this game.

OMG are you ever studying mathematics?
How about instead of whining about it, just deal with it? As it is now, retaliation’s purpose is to punish fast attacks. If you are attacking someone with retaliation with a skill that hits multiple times a second, then maybe you should change tactics… maybe even build for a bit more survivability.
Retaliation should return % of the damage dealt.
