Before the specialization update hit, Anet stated,when on the topic of engineer kits becoming bundles, that the backpieces that pop up when you equipped a kit will return as backpieces.

So where are retired Engineer backpieces? Don’t think I’d forget!

They should really make this a toggle-able option in the general settings:

I miss my hobosack, especially with the flamethrower.

I want them back too. I’ve been pretty sad when I noticed my flamethrower lacked the tank on the back. (where’s the ammo coming from, eh? Are we burning air now?)
I don’t really care for the other backpieces, as they didn’t look that good, though, but I want the old flamethrower thingy back, rather than the new raid drop… It doesn’t really fit if you play an engineer from the very beginning on. :C

I’d be perfectly fine if it was so, that, if you use the default engineer backpack, it changes with whatever kit you use, while using any other backpack doesn’t change at all. This would also add a lot more use to it. In the beginning it was the first backpack you could get. But with blank backpacks available for 8 copper each at the armor trader there’s nothing special about it anymore, plus it doesn’t even look cool. That’d chance it it would adapt to the kits used (just like it had been before!) and those who doesn’t like that can use whatever backpack they like.
