the new outfit this week has reopened a burning question of mine since my prelaunch days, if the devs or anet would like to answer it would be cool but as a discussion i wonder… will we get to see the monk or any of the previous classes from GW1 make a return in future releases. i would love to see dervish or monk make a return as they were my fav classes from that era and was sad that they didn’t make it into release, during my following through prelaunch i was hoping to hear news on them but it never came. though i can understand why with the monk it would involve a weaponless class though since anet is all about originality with classes it would make for an interesting mechanic. dervish would require a new weapon too since its trademark was the scythe though hammer with skin wouldn’t be too far off.

i am rambling now but i was wondering what you guys thought on the subject

THe way I see it, they are giving you a way to look like the old class, because they won’t give the classes themselves. I hear that most of the old classes where kinda melded into what we have now. They even said the Reaper spec takes a bit fom the idea of the Dervish, with all of its spinning, or somthing on those lines.

But long story shot, I don’t think we will ever get the old classes at thos point, maybe you will get thing that are derived from the old classes, but that is a close as we get. Throw the Outfit on top of it, and you can make believe.

The class itself, no, but maybe as an elite specialisation in HoT or in the future.

I think we wont see any more classes for GW2, at least not in the next few years.

Not in HoT. If any profession gets monk as an elite specialization, it’ll be guardian who are derived from monk mechanics and lore. Same with dervish and paragon.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Future Guardian elite was my thought too, although some have speculated the datamined and unsubstantiated thief/staff combo to be monk-like. I however am sceptical.

About future professions: I don’t expect any more professions to be added after the Revenant. We now have 3 professions per armor class. In addition, Anet said that elite specializations are the way in which they will increase character options in the future.

There is a difference between a gw1 monk and the monk that is discussed in relationship to the thief. The latter is a monk as in a ‘shaolin monk’.

I think we/he gets that. It isn’t beyond Anet to reuse the monk name/look but without the same (Guardian – like ) mechanics. I think if they do bring a class similar to the GW1 style monk they would avoid the heavy class because of style. I think they might avoid the light armor classes too because even tho gw1 monk was pure caster, I’d think they try to avoid a healer-caster class in a game with no trinity. So, I could completely see them bringing back monk in name and style, but not gw1 styled mechanics.

Honestly, I’m expecting the monk to come back as an elite spec, but when they did something more Canthan related. Since that seems unlikely too, we may never see the return of the monk unless they somehow insert Cantha culture back into the game somehow. This outfit is probably just a tribute.
