So If I went back to the video game store and said, “hey, I want my money back, I cant beat this game unless I pay extra” That should work shouldnt it? Some would say this game isnt beatable, id say yes, its multiplayer therefore the one who gets to the top first, with the most whatever beats it. And you cant do that unless you pay extra. Therefore its like selling me a broken game, and then saying I have to pay extra to fix it. Thats not moral, let alone legal. You cant sell a gimped product and then ask for more money to ungimp it. Its a pay to win game, after I already payed. You have to pay extra to win, but I already bought it under the impression I could win. So I think I have a case here, what do you guys think?

You don’t even have remotely close to a case.

No, you don’t. There is nothing you “need” to buy to enjoy this game. If you -want- something that takes a long time to get, that’s completely different than -needing- it to accomplish other tasks. May I ask how you cannot beat the game with the tools given without paying extra?

Well like I said, I defined “beat” in a multiplayer game in terms of getting to the top, having the best and most of everything. I cant do that unless I spend more money on this game, because it is impossible to beat someone whos paying for gold instead of earning it like game is originally sold. You know what I mean, basically I cant compete unless I buy gems, but I was under the impression buying the box would let me compete. Why else would i buy a multiplayer game? to be able to compete. and I cant unless I pay extra, therefore they sold me a broke game.
Right?

At the moment, there is nothing offered for money that exceeds the items you can obtain in game. If you are referring to Legendary/Ascended gear, you can obtain those in game without spending a penny. Also, The stats on said gear, does not have a massive advantage over someone in exotics, which can -easily- be bought for a decently low cost. Or use Karma to get the “best” gear from the vendors in Orr. I fare quite well against most players after never having spent a dollar in the cash shop. You can compete just fine with the tools given to any player in Guild Wars 2.

Well I agree, this game does let you finish the race… but the point of competing is having a chance to finish first isnt it? And Its impossible to do that without paying extra. Sure I can finish last, but why would I pay for a game that wont let me win, and it didnt say I cant win before I bought it.

What is the point of beating someone?
In both pve and pvp it depends on your skill, not your gold.
Also in your logic every games are bad because you can’t be the world first.

Wow, great question, If I had an answer Id have the answer to life itself. What is the point? Well I know in video games its to make the developers richer, but in life, would that mean we’re just being used by gods to make them richer somehow?

But that getting a little off topic, I was wondering If this argument would fly at a video game store, anyone worked at one? Would you issue a refund? Id obviously forfeit the account to anet aswell.

The only way you’d have a case is if ALL gear was bought with real money. That way you wouldn’t be able to fight without buying items, thus the game would be broken.

Honestly dude, this is an MMO, idk what other games you’ve played, but playing a MMO is not all about being the best player on the server or the entire game. You also can never beat a MMO, it is meant to be played for as long as the devolpers can hold your attention with new content.

OR! dive into the sPVP! everyone is the same gear set and lvl! No way you can “buy power” if everyone is bumped to max stats. That’s when the pure skill comes into play. Get up to the max rank, or put together a team to do tournaments.

My guess is, you don’t play alot of MMO’s, so if you don’t mind me saying, you would probably be better off in single player RPG’s or Halo/CoD, those games allow you to “be the best player” as far as ranking’s and scoreboards.

And as far as returning the game, you’re out of luck im afraid. sure you may be willing to forfeit the account, but the store will assume you will change everything in the account information.

@OP: your idea of the objective of the game is wrong, that is why you do not have a case.

Also you don’t have to pay any extra to enjoy the game so that point is invalid as well.

Your definition of “beating the game” is that “the one who gets to the top first, with the most whatever beats it.” There are two problems with this. There is no top. MMO’s are ongoing experiences. You can define a top all you want, but that’s you. Having the most of whatever is not a static thing. You HAD the most a minute ago, but since there is no “end” to an MMO, someone could pass you at any time. Knowledgeable game retailers will know these things.

Regardless, most companies will not refund video games, they will only replace a defective copy with a good one of the same thing.

U might want to talk to a lawyer actually. The environment they are breeding is one where you have to buy gold via their real money shop to get even materials to gear up to do the dungeons they’ve made this game focus on, whether intentional or not, so theres a chance but only a lawyer will tell you yes or no.

Except you don’t have to buy gold via their real money shop to do anything. You just either have to be committed/good at playing or patient.

You can beat this game without paying extra…depending on your ability and luck it may take longer than you want but you can get there without paying extra.

It’s a game forum. The truth is not to be found here.

You are the one who started the tread about bots being good for the game, right?

You have no case, gems/ gold conversion have been in the game since beta- hardly a surprise.

The game is not pay to win.
You can’t beat an MMO.
You need to examine why you play games, really.
