Hardcore players are grinding for gear now yes…
Casuals are playing the same game (with some of the same bugs unfortunately) and/or leaving because of the gear grind that’s certain to exclude them from content unless they become another cog in the machine themselves.
Welcome to guild wars 2 , FOTM edition. I am not sure how long this will last, but for the time being this is the game. Come on in and see if you have fun. It’s really the best advise anyone can give you.
Seems to be true unfortunately. The new Fotm dungeon being the sole means of progression for many now.
See it’s not just that they added this gear it’s that they pretty much have taken away any other means of obtaining anything else.
Casuals like me are being affected by the addition of this new armor set being the new shiny. Most players who want to be competative in wvw will be grinding this single dungeon. That means they won’t be doing open world events like freeing the temples in Orr. We’ve already seen this time and time again where the temples are all taken over 80% of the time and no one can even port to the locations on the cursed shore. Add to this not being able to get a large enough group to take back the temples because everyones running fractals and you’ve got a big problem.
They also broke the drop rates, kept DR (preventing farming of mats for crafting), and broke magic find so that it doesn’t actually do what it’s intended to do, increase the quality of the drops.
So now. the sole method of getting anything you need is all in dungeons.
That’s why you see such a large number of people posting to the forums right now. They’ve bottlenecked people into a single play style.
Hey guys, I haven’t played for about a month now (but played constantly through beta’s, headstart etc.)
I’ve been reading up that this games state is in bad shape right now (based on player feedback). Is it really true that people are just grinding for gear now? I loved this game for people being out in the world, and traveling around doing things. Not grinding for gear.
IS THERE HOPE!? lol
The game is in great shape, it’s the hottest MMO on the market, the servers are busting at the seams with overflows on every server.
Some people are concerned that since they added a new dungeon (which is crazy good btw) that no one wants to run the old dungeons.
Some people are just game bashing.
yes, there is still any hope…
wait for monday (reddit)

There is hope. It’s still largely a great game. There are predictable aspects of the patch that are already having negative effects but you can play for hours without noticing them too much. (Edit: I had to transfer to another higher population server to address the empty world problem. Mine, which was fine before the patch, became dead.)
We are currently waiting for an explanation for the change in direction. It’s only then that we can assess the situation as to the longer-term viability of the game. I still have hope.

Personally, I say just play the game and see for yourself, I personally am having a ton of fun (and I have NOT been grinding for gear at all, just been working on my personal story and leveling and inviting friends to play.
In my oppinion, this game is FANTASTIC, it just seems like the people in the game and in the forums are completely different groups of people, in game people are praising it, in the forums alot of people are trashing it, I say, don’t read the forums except for the Announcements and updates, I also hear that most forums for games are extremely negative anyway.
Just play the game yourself and decide for yourself whether or not you like it and the latest updates.

0.o What made you think this thread was an announcement? Or do you read the forums for more than that and then just assume it’s all negative talk?
There is a lot of negativity here, but it does exist in game as well FYI… anyways I do agree to the point that trying it out is the best way for the OP to find out if they like it or not.

The thing is – people said the same for TOR, Warhammer, Rift, LotR:O or … <insert any struggling MMO here>.
So based on past games, forum “atmosphere” is not something to sit idle by.

I would not call LotRO a struggling MMO, and what happened with TOR was all Biowares fault not really the community. The forums are a vocal minority, but I agree that doesnt mean they should be ignored.

Going in with a large IP, subscription based, then struggling and almost going under turning F2P…. it struggled.
And you don’t know forums are vocal minority. They might be part of the majority as evident by other games, but just vocal.
