Ok so I quit about 2 years ago after leveling and gearing my necro due to lack of end game and no real goal for me to shoot for. I want to come back but I’m lost with all of the new stuff. Is the end game still dead? Should I buy HoT? Is WvW still broken?
Thanks Guys

Is the end game still dead?

Well… yes. There’s more dead stuff stuck onto it now, but in the end it’s still dead. There are no higher stats to chase.

And no. There’s “Masteries” now. Think of them as “reputation levels” that you can/must grind out to get some stuff unlocked. You can only earn them with a level 80 character, and you must own HoT to get them. Now, if they’re worth it or not I’ll have to leave up to you, but feel free to look into them. Also, HoT is harder than the basic zones, and there’s 2/3 of a raid now.

Should I buy HoT?

If you were bored with the game when you left, then you’ll be bored again without something new to do. The something new is Living Story Season 2 (you’ll have to buy access with gems), and HoT. And Season 2 won’t keep you occupied for very long at all, I’d think. So if you’re coming back after leaving for the stated reasons, then I’d suggest buying HoT.

Is WvW still broken?

::laughs::

When GW2 launched, WvW was like a little kid, all bright eyes and full of energy. When you left, he was that same kid, beaten so badly that he was now in a wheelchair. He still had hope, though.

Now? Now he’s that same kid, still in that wheelchair, but he has somehow fallen into one of the Saw films as the only person around for that puppet to abuse.

The one thing the reply you got neglected to mention was there are raids now in the expansion and they seem to have gotten a positive response.

If you mean is there end game as in gear grind, no not as such. You’re not going to get better stats.

If you mean is there end game as in more challenging content, then yes, the content that exists in Heart of Thorns is more challenging the anything in the base game.

Due the poder creep after the expansión your Necro is now probably outdated.

The Game is now more close to the typical korean MMO grinder and updating your character to their full potencial (full ascended gear with múltiple iterations bases on each gamemode) will probably take you several months/thousands of gold coins, so your demanda for “end Game” is now fulfilled.

HoT is a highly recomended purchase to play the Game, otherwise considera your experience handicaped.

WvW is dead. I in exchange, PvP is now much better. PvE is a mixture of both things, with a lot of task to do, but some of the old ones really crippled (I.e.: dungeons).

IMO it’s less power creep and more of a synergy creep than anything. Many of the elite spec lines, by themselves, are not too different than what the standard lines are. It’s when you mix the two, such as with a Dragonhunter, that you get something a bit more disgusting-1man solo breakbars, pull-trap with a barrier leading to a trap that does insane damage if you cross it and cripples you, all the while more traps that keep you from stealthing, inflicts high vulnerability, and does insane amounts of damage.

Actually, I did mention it.

Also, HoT is harder than the basic zones, and there’s 2/3 of a raid now.

I didn’t go into detail because I’ve heard both good and bad about it, and as a non-raider myself I don’t feel I should pass judgement on the quality of the content.
