If this is not the correct place to post, I sincerely apologize & understand my thread may be moved or deleted.

I have not played GW2 seriously in about 7-8 months (probably upwards to 10 months) and have several questions about returning. Are the low level areas dead or still very populated? I am almost positive all my friends have quit playing & I plan to start all over & relearn my class. As such I’d like to know if there are plenty of people for me to socialize with.

Also, I’ve seen a few things about a tournament (just started reading the website a little today) and was curious what all that is about. Also, is WvW still a challenge at all? Are there any new changes?

I also have questions about classes. Have Staff Eles been changed at all for 1v1 in sPvP? Or are they still only really useful in groups for WvW? They are my favorite class and weapon combo. Also, how are Necros doing? They’re my second favorite

Also, does it still cost anything to change servers? I’m not exactly sure what server I’m on yet since I haven’t redownloaded or logged on, but I’m most likely going to try and transfer to a high populated server for more socializing.

Thank you to any & all who take the time to read this & respond. I will be doing my own research about everything I’ve asked, but I also like to get insight from current active players as well.

Your server is relevant only for wvw (which does cost to move). In pve servers are now “megaservers” which merges populations in order to populate maps better – so yes you will find a lot more people in starter areas now and in previously less populated maps in general. It is a system I have found extremely beneficial to the game.

I can’t comment on spvp as I don’t pvp

Hope you enjoy getting back into the game

Queensdale is active, other areas are less active. It’s pretty much a single player game to play PvE. There’s a new leveling system that gimps your progression. For example you won’t unlock your traits until 30th level and have to do certain tasks to assign them. Elementalists and Necromancers are fine. Play how you like.

I won’t lie, the Traits thing sounds like a hassle. What do you mean certain tasks? Like Quests? Am I better off just rebooting an old character rather than rerolling?

You now have to earn some of your traits (unless already unlocked) in a vaguely similar way to GW1. The idea is you may have to kill a certain boss, or do a specific event or do a jumping puzzle. Or You can just purchase the traits with skill points and gold.

It isn’t a huge hassle really, but it has courted controversy – the new player expereince/levelling changes will give many conflicting opinions. I have no real issue with it at all, many are vocally opposed to it. It’s something to decide for yourself really.

You are immensely better off using a pre-made character instead of rerolling. There is a specific task assigned to each of the 65 major traits, and it ranges from killing a specific champ to 100% map complete of a particular zone to wvw objectives, to dungeons and more. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trait_guide

You can buy the traits, but the total cost is 43g and 360 skill points, as opposed to the previous cost of 2g70s.

Sounds like karma for me telling my friends I wanted to fire up another MMO to have something to pass the time. Guess this is my perfect chance to create a character & go all out with her & go for full completion of things. Luckily I have both a level 80 Necro & a level 80 Staff Ele to use in WvW already.

Keep in mind that you wont need all traits and that many are easy to get. But yeah using an old character is more convenient.

Several of the quest chains are bugged, as well.

You’re in “luck” you can start an entire new character and experience the NPE and the new Traits system. They’ve also made significant changes to the Personal Story, and I think some parts are still bugged. You sound like you might be ANet’s target demo for these changes. Let us know how it goes.

Speaking of which, quick question (don’t derail the entire thread) did they ever get around to fixing the greatest fear plotline?

I’m sure I’ll do a follow up post in the next day or so about the game. I should be updating and starting my new character by tonight. What significant changes have they made for the personal story? I read an article somewhere where they said they try not to make significant changes like that so as to not effect new players who have yet to experience all the newly released content?

Concerning your questions about staff eles and necros: staff eles are kind of viable for pvp, but other options are more powerful. Necro is a strong pvp class, especially in the NA meta, a great WwW zerg class, a meh roaming class and the worst dungeon class out there. Overall, they are below average. They are indeed a lot of people to socialize with. I just met a cool guy with a chilled out guild accepting all kind of players without requirements, I can ask him to send you an invite.

If you’re on EU and need help to get into dungeons, pm me.

Changes to wvw:
-There is a new map called Edge of the Mists. There is a red, green, and blue side, and you are the color of your home server each week. That means if Blackgate and Dragonbrand are both green, they will be on the same side in EotM. This map is basically a karma and champ train.

-Siege Disabler is a new item that, well, disables enemy siege abd costs 10 supply to use.

-Golem Mastery was added to wvw traits. Your wxp points have been reset.

-Wxp is now account shared, so be sure to log onto every character to have their wxp points added to your account total. Each character can still set wvw traits differently.

It might just be a good idea to read through the April and September patch notes, as that is when we saw major changes.

I find it quite contradictory. People are up in arms about the leveling system in GW2 for being “kitten” out. But yet move on to games like AA – which has a similar system in place. And say nothing about that being “kitten” out.

Staff eles are beast

I’ve watched a few WvW/sPvP videos uploaded within the last few weeks on Youtube and they look to be in great shape. Could also very well be that the players making the videos are especially skillful though :P
