Hi there. Considering a return after a very long time away. Haven’t played since about 4 months after launch? Was wondering two things:

1) Is there an especially good ’what’s new’ thread somewhere?

And 2) I wasn’t level-capped before. Am I missing anything in particular if I play the core game for a bit while I decide whether or not to take the plunge with HoT?

Anyway, thanks in advance.

I would genuinely suggest starting a new character, if you weren’t level capped jumping in on a class thats half way through with a new trait/unlock system thats alien to you (they changed over the time you were gone) will probably be a bit confusing. Starting fresh will give you pointers on how to deal with stuff and let you understand as you go.

No rush to get HoT either as it adds endgame (lvl80 only) content, best play through Core GW2 and see how you like it.

Don’t delete your old character/s if possible. They have nice Birthday presents coming.
I’d have more to say, but coffee break and phone…

I may just do that, Coulter, thanks. It’s been so long the whole kitten game might be fresh for me…I appreciate the advice!

i second this, i came back after 3-4 years and purchase HOT and had so many godam birthday boosters and lvl 30 booster which got me 4 char instant to 30. i have 5 lvl 80s now. again about the trait system has changed alot took me a bit to get my head around despite being quite simple.

So I could probably mail those things to a new character then?

Your best bet for what’s been changed would be to read through the game updates forum or thru the game updates on the wiki

You should note that not all of the content in the patch notes necessarily stayed. Pretty much all of Living Story Season 1 was temporary and has gone. Though Season 2 is “permanent” (you’ll need to either group with a friend who has or purchase the actual the story episodes yourself to play them).

I do agree with others that starting a new character may be in your best interest if you have a free slot. The trait system (now referred to as specializations) has been revamped twice since you’ve been away, for example, and a new character will help you “relearn” as you go.

No, you won’t be missing much of anything right now. HoT is intended as post-80 content with it’s masteries and elite specializations.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Bog Otter’s boomerang videos summarize things fairly well.

They’re tailored to help returning players.
