Ok i’ll try to keep this civil.. I played GW2 at launch, and on and off since going from one game to the next… I have yet to actually hit max level but i have a friend who has… My main focus in MMORPG is pvp with some raiding… Now i won’t get into gear progression as there is none…not that big of a deal i guess…
But i was looking up some recent things since my friend wants me to get back in to it and to join him in pvp…. Here are some things from the most recent patch I would like to talk about…
1"Obsidian Sanctum, the jumping puzzle in the Eternal Battlegrounds, has been moved to its own WvW map. Entering the puzzle will take players out of the Eternal Battlegrounds. Leaving will take players back to Lion’s Arch."
Now first I’d like to know what the reason for this was…. Anyone know? Was there too much trolling there so no one could complete it? And who is actually gonna queue up for that just to do the puzzle?
2"Traps have been added as a new purchasable consumable utility item. Two unique variants are available. "
Now at first glance this sounds like an amazing addition to WvW…allow you to play traps on the roads and such to mess with the other team… but then you look at it…
“When placed, traps last for one hour.
Players may only have one of a given trap type deployed at a time.
Traps will disappear when a player leaves the map.”
Traps lasing for an hour…. Great. Players may only have one out at a time? Not great at all… yeah we shouldn’t be able to spam them but come on… and then the kicker… traps will disappear when a player leaves the map. Come on. It’s supposed to be LIVE WvWvW as much as i hate the fact that siege vehicles despawn if u dont “click” them i hate this even more. In a real war scenario things wouldnt just despawn cuz of inactivity that is dumb in my opinion…the rest of you disagree with me, and to each his own.
Then we have “Supply Removal Trap: Removes 5 supply from enemies affected by the trap. Stealth Disruptor Trap: Removes stealth from enemies and reveals them for 30 seconds, preventing stealth.”
Those are the only 2 traps? Seems pretty petty and not very worth it to me… Anyone have anything to add to that? lol.
TL;DR: I wont even get into the rest as it means nothing to me having been gone for a little while… But mainly I’m saying those don’t seem that good of additions and this patch (im not sure how big it was supposed to be) seems to be very lack luster to me. Now let the flaming commence

Well, the reason they removed the jumping puzzle from the map was so that there would be more spaces in WvW for people who want to compete, instead of doing the jumping puzzle. It really hasn’t changed at all, except that if you enter the jumping puzzle, you’re not taking an EB slot from someone else, so the queues for EB will be smaller.
As for the trap thing, I don’t really have a comment on it, but I love the EB change.
Has anyone tried what happens if you die in the puzzle? I hope they at least made it so you can respawn directly there and don’t have to go back to Lion’s Arch then go back to Battle Grounds and then reenter the puzzle.
I think it could be fun to try to go there just to kill others but only if you can respawn there if you die.

Unless you are in a higher tier server. You wont have to queue for a jumping puzzle. And Yes, there was too much trolling in it.
And why would you place a trap, then leave.
If a borderlands is completely filled, and every player places down a trap at once. You can fill the almost every single part where people actually go to. Make people able to place more then one, and you have a even bigger problem.
You might think this wont happen as nobody would think about it. But Anet knows some people will think of it atleast on a few server and im assuming they did this for that reason.
Supply removal sounds extremely usefull for when i see a enemy group that is attacking one of my tower, run away to a supply camp to get supplies and build siege. Just quickly place down a trap before they come back, and there, they have less supply and we have more time to rally people to counter them.
Ever just taken over a keep where there was still a perma stealth thief and a dead mesmer inside? Yeah, you have to stick around for almost an hour before they finally get bored and just waypoint, 30 seconds is extremely long for a thief. This will probably just make it a lot harder for thief or not possible at all, which i dont even mind, there are enough places for mesmer too hide and a lot of people dont do mesmer sweeps.
In the end i think you didn’t think any of these things through and only thought of the possible negative impacts. Or you simple just don’t want to adapt.

I can see that, multi traps isn’t that big really i mainly mean they should at least stay there full hour if u can only place one… its not like they do THAT much… -5 supply could be annoying, but not that big if the players aren’t even on at the time lol…

While this sounds interesting, does it state if a trap effects an area? Or just a single person? Because if its a single person then you better be kitten good at placement…
In the end i think you didn’t think any of these things through and only thought of the possible negative impacts. Or you simple just don’t want to adapt.
It is possible i didn’t think them through too thoroughly as i am just returning, its just what i read, and decided to comment on.
I don’t play WvW but I can well imagine how these traps will affect other players if they added the ones that would hinder the players combat. (not talking stealth you can still kill without stealth).
They already have a massive issue with open world explorations and exploration completion because people abuse the jumping puzzles and the machinery they can use now to keep people from getting their goal. I can see why they changed that location if it was part of it, however it doesn’t fix the “exploration is neither a hardcore or a PVP activity” or the “people can still grief those trying to finish an achievement” problems that come with having exploration achievements required for completion of the game content or for acquisiton of legendary items.
That’s the issues I have with it. Make it a separate completion from world completion for the mists and make it only mandatory to finish the exploration of the pve world for legendaries, that would fix this whole thing.
