Q:
…but after assessment, should I even try? xD
Hello fellow guild wars 2 players.
I played intensively the first 2 months at launch(when 100 gems were only a couple of silvers), unlocked a few bank slots at no charge, leveled my elementalist to 80, explored everything, etc. Then I left because there was no endgame and it became boring. I recently came back after almost 2 years and started a new character. But after looking at the market, I realized that the economy is out of whack __
. My then-fortune of 15 gold is virtually worth nothing now. Exploring the maps with my new character still gives about 2 silvers (for a couple of hours) and dungeons give 1.5gold per path. Decent gear is worth in the Ks gold pieces from what I’ve seen. Looks to me that the only way for returning players to get somewhere without painfully grinding is to buy gems with cash and trade for gold xD. I’m currently wondering if I should just give up on this game and wait for another MMO to play at release. I really want to give this game another shot though, so here are some questions that would help me get back in it:
1. What can returning players do to get back in the game WHILE having fun? Is it even possible?
2. How do players make gold nowadays? Are dungeons still the best way to go?
Thanks!

1. Depending on your server WvW is the endgame (at least for me). You get to know the other people on your server community and using strategy against another human instead of ai keeps the challenge alive.
2. Pretty sure the last time I checked dungeons came in 1st if you are speed clearing and EOTM comes in second. EOTM nets you WvW ranks in addition to Karma and gold from selling drops/champ bags.
In addition to your questions 1) don’t grind for ascended armor unless you do fractals or roaming wvw. 2)Don’t focus on your loot drops – play the game for fun and enjoy when something really cool drops.
Well, your 15 Gold may not buy much, but your mats, etc. sell for a lot more than they did at launch. It seems relatively easy for me to make gold, and I don’t do dungeon runs, or even the WB runs.
I’m sure some of the helpful players (and your thread will likely be moved to that sub-forum) will give you lots of advice on how to make money, as well as reasons to stay away. Lol.
Welcome return. =)
I just sold all my mats and exchanged my remaining 125 gems for 11 gold pieces. I am now at 108 gold pieces xD. Can I get something decent with that?
Such as? What is decent to one person may be hideous or useless to another. I’m not sure what your goals are, if any. =)
I have just enough to get logan’s set if I exclude the helm! I guess I will get that and play the living world episodes when/if they release season 1(I missed that). Until then, I might put gw2 on ice since I have not much to do besides farming gold with no set goals xD. Unless I stumble upon an interesting guild or something. Thanks for the response Inculpatus!
What do you percieve to be ‘decent gear’ that costs thousands of gold? You mean the absolute pinnacle of GW2s flashy, obnoxious cosmetics, the Legendary Weapons? Of course those are expensive and your initial two month ‘foot wetting’ into the game (two years ago) isn’t going to earn you one of those. If you want statistically relevant gear, you can dawn a full set of exotics for 40-100ish gold. There is only one category in between and that is Ascended gear which is only marginally better than Exotics and only required for the highest tiers of one aspect of the game, ie. Fractals of the Mists.
Your 108 gold will net you a full build of ‘Meta’ gear. From there, you only have cosmetics to worry about unless you intend to do high level Fractals. Looks like there is hope for you yet. Pretty easy huh?
Well, if you are interested in Season One, you might be interested in Season Two. If you shelf Guild Wars 2 (which is totally your choice), should you come back, you will need to pay 200 Gems per Episode (for Season Two – unless there becomes some kind of bundle available after it has finished for a discounted price) rather than logging in and unlocking each Episode, at no cost, while it is active. Just a head’s up. Good luck.

Thanks for tips and the head’s up guys. To be honest, I would pour all my gold into a cool cape GW1 style if I could xD. Guess I will unlock season2 episodes ;D
Don’t get Cultural T3 gear to start your dynamic return. You will only be disappointed. It only has ‘Rare’ stats and they are underwhelming for the price and not even a good stat spread. Getting good stats once and THEN customizing your look is the proper order of things and will save you a ton of gold and regrets. If you try to go for some epic look now, before equipping an adequate gear setup/build, you will only waste a lot of gold, time, and other resources. Find some decent looking Exotic gear (that you can stand to look at for a couple weeks) off of the Tradepost. After this, you can save your gold toward whatever cosmetic ends you desire.
