Guild Wars 2

Hey all,

I’m a recently turning player. Bought game at launch, got a necro up to 50-something, and then life got in the way. Finally I’ve found time to return, and due to all that’s changed, I’m most likely going to scrap my character and start fresh.

Just a few questions:

1) Which server/shard/realm seems pretty popular? I’m looking for an active server.

2) What drastic changes have happened? I quit playing prior to the first big update (long before the fall of Lion’s Arch and all that).

3) I’ve been keeping up to date, and I know there’s a feature pack coming out in mid-April. Would it be worth it to wait for that before starting a new character, or does it really not matter?

That’s about it. If there’s anything I should know, feel free to help me out, or point me to a link (here or otherwise) that can give a quick rundown.

1 theres about 3 servers per region that are actually populated to the status advertised on the server page. read about to find out which these are for yours

2 in terms of content theres a new island, a new dungeon one of the TA paths has been replaced, world bosses have had tweaks and a few new dynamic events have been added, most of the last years content has been living story which you cant do ever. other than that the world is pretty much as you left it
they’ve reset progression a bunch of times so depending on what you did before you left you may find you have less achievement points etc now

3 dont scrap your character yet, things like dyes are going account wide

4 also if you pvped before you will need to use all your materials as they have removed glory and will be deleting all mats after patch

See if you have some valuable skins in your bank. Some skins from the first year’s events now are worth more than legendaries. And if you have any but its souldbound to your necro it will go to your wardrobe on the next feature patch.

For active servers, in NA its Tarnished Coast, Blackgate, jade quarry. Some of then are full now so you cant transfer. But there are other nice pve servers, some servers are having a free transfer this week i think because they have low pop in wvw. I was thinking about transfering to Northern Shiverpeaks since it was free but i dont want to lose my personal guild bank.

@Shadow Blade: I realize the Living Story is long past for me, and that sucks, but oh well, life is more important. I’ll enjoy the aftermath of whatever that brought about.

I PvP’ed a little bit, but very little, maybe a match or two, so I doubt I have anything worthwhile.

@Casmurro: Skins meaning what exactly? Or is that something I should Google? I don’t plan on deleting my character until I check her out and transfer whatever appropriately. She’s currently on Sorrow’s Furnace. Am I able to mail items or money across servers? If not, then it doesn’t really matter when I delete her I suppose, lol.

I’ll see if I can transfer my current character to one of the ones that are active during the free transfer, if eligible.

Its worth more than 2k gold now. Some old weapon and armor skins are pretty rare right now.

If you transfer you keep all your gold and karma and other currencies in your wallet (we have a wallet now that is shared by all of your characters), and you keep all your stuff in your bank.
