Hey Guys,

Just searching out for some advice,
I’ve been away from the game for about a year but want to make a comeback, I’ve been watching a ton of WP videos on YouTube to try and catch up but I don’t know how Ill fair coming back into the game, I had decently geared top levels for the time but i’m not sure how they may be in comparison in the game today, I’m also curious to this living world stuff, from my perception this is material that comes and goes in windows of time and once the window passes the material is gone from the game, is this material that is purely for enjoyment? or have I missed out on a lot of vital game material. Basically i’m just wondering on how much I might have actually missed and how much of a mountain I might have to climb to get back into the game effectively.

Just start playing again. That’s what I did after more than a year break. It’s not like this is a heavy PvP game. Most builds are viable however zerker is the current meta build.

You would have to pay extra to unlock the Living World season 2 episodes (don’t bother, they weren’t that great), and Living World season 1 is gone for good.

There are two new grinding zones, Dry Top and Silverwastes. If you want to farm, those two are rather popular.

If you want good content, instead, well… ArenaNet will release an expansion relatively soon. Maybe it would be worth delaying your return until then, so you come back with the new profession and new skills for the old professions.

Max gear a year ago is still max gear. Unless you think exotics are max gear in which case you weren’t maxed a year ago either.

For the living story it’s broken into two parts. Season 1 is completely gone and can’t be replayed. Season 2 generally consists of a number of story instances per chapter, which can be purchsed for gems (or in game gold turned into gems). It costs 200 gems per chapter to unlock each chapter.

The rewards aren’t uber great, but there are achievements associated with each chapter if you’re into that sort of thing.

If not you can always look up the story, or even play through it with someone else who unlocked it. The downside to that is you get no rewards or achievements…not even any drops since there are no drops inside living stories, the rewards at at the end. As far as I know, no one does LS for rewards though. They do it to experience the story.

As for armor and weapons, ascended is the top tier of weapons, and the only way to get them guaranteed is to craft them yourself. You can play any content of the game except for the highest level fractals without upgrading your gear. If you don’t have ascended gear now, I’d consider getting it a long term goal.

Exotics are very much still viable, so don’t sweat it. Most players only put ascended on their most played character, and it’s most useful in wvw. Living story season 2 is much much better than past story, so I recommend buying it. The rewards are decent- champ bags and keys to unlock chests on the new maps, and lots of achievement points as well.

You will likely be able to just pick up and play again. Check out the class sub forums and have a read through the game release notes. If you’re unsure about something, people in game are usually overly willing to answer questions.
