Hello,

I’m not sure how often these sorts of threads pop up, but I looked through the first page and only found 1 and it didn’t have quite what I was looking for, it was more about whether or not to buy HoT, so I figured I’d start a thread.

I’ve recently returned to GW2 after not playing for quite some time. Are there good resources or guides out there that can help me understand the changes that have been made over time, refresh my understanding of character builds, and give me some ideas about how to gear up at level 80?

My problem is that I have a level 80 character (an engineer), but it clearly isn’t up to snuff (some armor is as low as level 54 req). What suggestions would the community make to help me get myself back up to speed and get my character, build, and gameplay skills to where they need to be?

Thanks!

Best advice? Use an empty slot to start a new character, and play away.

It’s seriously the best way to learn the basics again, some of which have changed.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

I don’t have the links but they have been linked in similar threads (you might be able to google search for the threads). I hear tell that BogOtter did a video series for “boomerang” players to help them catch up on the changes.

I find that no guide in the world can help me understand in the abstract, however. So Palador is right. Make a new character, possibly as a throwaway, and level it up a bit in between reviewing the guides. That will give you context. Also make liberal use of the /wiki command: In your in-game chat, type /wiki Subject, eg /wiki Traits, and you’ll get the community’s distilled wisdom on the subject. Any time you aren’t sure about something in game, get out of aggro and do that and you’ll have an explanation right there for the immediate issue, thus gaining even better context.
