Returning to Guild Wars 2
If your not lvl 80 already your going to find yourself very, very alone in the world. Most -80 zones are totally devoid of players now :(
There is no such thing as “leveling”, you explore the world, do events, complete hearts, do whatever you want – and you get levels by doing so.
The concept of “leveling” is an obsession with doing things repeteadly just so you raise your level, it’s not something that can be resolved by anyone else beside you.
Until you’re obsessed with the level you are you will always believe getting to 80 is a grind no matter what, but in reality it’s not – unless you don’t like anything in the world that is, in which case you should consider games with a progression are not for you.
So far there’s only keg brawl.
Been notices that you can expect alot more mini-games soonish.
And good job on coming back before december 14th, because winters coming. =p
And er yeah, alot of the leveling areas aren’t as flourished as it used to be.
But i do so people around here and there, jumping puzzles can be pretty enjoyable aswell.
I still level my alts to 80 and find it still pretty enjoyable although, i’m doing the same stuff 8 times in a row. =0
Crafting is pretty nice to catch some levels, and it’s pretty decent to use all of the materials you gather instead of selling them. Which as it stands right now aren’t worth alot because alot of people already hit cap.
Make sure you use the discoveries because they give way more XP and progress to the next craft profession levels.

Yeah getting to 80 isn’t necessarily a grindy feeling, but some of the pursuits once you’re level 80 can feel grindy (notice I said some, not all).
Exactly what Red Falcon said. If you simply play what you find fun you’ll level up in no time! This also apply to any other reward you can get in game!
You got two options take the path that gets you there quickest (this will feel like a grind)
or you can play what you enjoy and use that to get the reward you want.
You say you’re in no hurry and thats great, thats important. See what you enjoy be it Dynamic Events, Exploration, Story, WvW, Achievements, Crafting, Jumping Puzzles, whatever Play that and dont worry about leveling up its as simple as that!

Uh that’s called leveling and of course you actually want full traits which isn’t possible until lvl 80 and heavily affects your build so leveling does exist and yes it’s a grind in GW2, hearts are a grind and annoying hate how they are required for map completion. No different than boring quests in other MMO’s.
As much as I hate area’s like Orr I am glad there are no hearts there.

Hearts are the boring quests from other MMOs just delivered in a different way. I would prefer all the zones be more event oriented with more events.
Anyways, something I plan to do once I complete my legendary will be roaming lower level zones and seeing if anyone needs help with stuff. You can also go play WvW and take it seriously, join a guild for it, and do your best for your server.
About the actual problems of this game, you wont notice that change at this momment.
ANet promissed big updates for January and February, then I hope by there they will take some action to improve the game and do what they said alot before launch: We don’t want grindy games
Asura thing.
Discover everything, see everything, quest everything and kill everything.
You should have the time of your life. I am.
If you want the most from the game, this is what you should do:
Create the character you want to play and play it the way you want to play it. Make friends, join a guild, team up with people to do things. Follow your personal story, explore the landscape, look for dynamic events, run a few dungeons, try your hand at crafting, and enjoy yourself.
Also, I don’t know where some of these other people are playing, but on both Dragonbrand and Borlis Pass, the lower level areas are packed with people.
Starting on December 14, the Wintersday Event will take place. It’s not yet known what it will consist off (apart from an asura toymaker named Tixx who has a big flying airship toy factory), but it is this month’s big content update.

Also, there are apparently two huge updates coming in January and February that are supposed to be an expansions worth of content. So, there’s that.
My highest is 74 and I have been happily playing sincce headstart. I have yet to go to an area more then three times and am only at 49% map complition. Just keep moving. Talk to npcs especif they are triying to get your attention. Go 10to levels then do your persoal story til it is higher then you. Rinse and repeat.
Grinding happens when you get to 80 per my understanding. But grinding before that is only possible if you cause it to happen
Leveling a grind? First time hearing this, at 80 I was actually disappointed that it was over, by far that most enjoyable MMO leveling experience I’ve had.
I don’t really understand how you don’t care about leveling quickly YET you see it as a grind. I’m guessing by “Grind” you actually mean it’s just boring in general? In that case, similar to what other people have said, just explore the world, go for map/world completion, play the auction house, find a guild, try and find the right race/class for you, stumble across events, discover secret chests and jumping puzzles, try out the personal story or WvW, do a bit of crafting, possibly get into the lore etc etc.
There are more than enough options, just remember that it’s only a grind if you make it a grind.
This is what I did in my leveling:
1. WvW
2. Normal gameplay (exploring hearts etc)
3. Lots of gathering
4. Little bit of crafting for fun
5. Some sPvP (Can’t use this to level, but I did this when I wanted to do something different)
6. Dungeons
If you thought it was a grind before the Lost Shores patch, I don’t have good news for you. They took what was a bit of a grind to level 80 exotics—then they doubled it.

Yeah, if you look at gw2spidy or whatever its called you can see on that day some of the T6 mats went from a couple silver to 25 in a few hours.
This is now kicking me in the teeth with my legendary. I saved about 150g on Dawn only to pay that and more for the fine mats. Only have about 180 of 4 kinds to go and its ~160g for them all.
