Revert Melee Cleave Nerf
Um. What attack were you using before that cleaved more than three targets?
Skills on cooldown can often cleave up to 5, but auto-attacks on cleaving weapons have always only hit three.
Since melee auto attacks cleave, ranged auto attacks should pierce. I mean, fair’s fair, right?

The max AOE targets for every skill in the game is 5. Nothing in the game that isn’t a siege weapon hits more than 5 targets.

How long have you been out of the game? The 3/5 target cap for melee cleaving has been around for as long as I can remember, and I jumped in on launch weekend. I believe AoE skills did get nerfed down to 5 targets at some point mainly due to WvW concerns, but I don’t think melee abilities were ever that high.

NoNoNo I can tell you for A FACT that ive hit much more than five targets with melee cleave. Some melee skills dont cleave (dagger) but most do (like GS auto attacks). It doesnt make any sense to put a cap on it as it just makes trash in pve slower to kill.

really because I have seen at min 5 numbers come up at once (this forum filter is super sensitive) auto attacks have always been unlimited.

You’re just dead wrong. Cleave has always been three targets per hit. Your over dramatic post seems unnecessary. Aoe, bouncing attacks, and piercing attacks are all that have ever targeted more than 3.
Play a ranged class. Melee cleave is not underpowered.

Do you have a damage proc sigil on your weapon that might be causing the extra numbers you are seeing on screen ?

well, ele dagger auto is special
air attacks twice per actual attack
fire is 3 projectiles
water bounces back after max range, earth does cleave at all
With 100b for example you hit 8 times. If you have 4 enemies in front of you, you might hit 1-3 for the first hit, 2-4 with the 2nd hit, and as such it will seem like you hit all 4. But each hit only hit a max of 3.

Please do more studying… I know AoEs that hit 10 targets, not siege weapon related.

I know Warrior warhorn 4 hit 10 allies, I don’t know about attacking skills though.

Dragon’s claw is 3 projectiles that are counted seperately, while vapour blade is a piercing projectile that has a separate target limit on going out and returning. Neither of them cleaves. Lightning whip on the other hand is a cleave and was always limited to 3 targets per attack (but as mentioned above, normal attack animation covers two strikes, so it’s 3 targets x 2).
Remember, not all melee weapon autoattacks are cleaves – or even melee attacks at all. And sometimes one use of a skill does not equate to a single attack.
