I’ve heard a lot of complaining about how farming has been nerfed. Personally, I could care less, as I don’t farm. I find it boring (and, as an aside, I find it hilarious that people who actually think something as boring as farming would actually be fun seem to have the most complaints about GW2 in general), so I don’t do it, and therefore, I don’t get punished by the anti-farm code. I would have never even known it was there if I didn’t read the forum.

But I thought that what would be a great step forward is, especially considering the high karma costs of many things in the game, a system to reward players for doing different DE’s instead of sticking to one or two (lookin’ at you, Pentinent zergers).

How it would work:

Basically, the system I’m suggesting would cause karma rewards to increase for doing a different dynamic event than, let’s say, the previous five they’ve participated in, while decreasing that karma reward increase whenever they repeat one of those dynamic events. It would work as a multiplier, like this.

1. Complete a dynamic event: You get your full experience, karma, and coin. You’re also rewarded with a DE reward multiplier buff of 1.1×.
2. Complete a different dynamic event. You get 1.1x times as much experience, karma, and coin as you normally would for that dynamic event. The DE reward multiplier buff goes up to 1.2×.
3. This repeats until it reaches a cap, maybe 1.5×. At this point, doing two different DE’s would yield as much experience, karma, and coin as doing three does now.
4. A player does one of their previous five DE’s over. They get as much exp, karma, and coin as their buff would allow them to yield, but afterward, it drops by 0.2×. So if a player’s at 1.5x and repeats one of their previous 5 DE’s, it drops to 1.3x after they are rewarded.

With this system, players who explore and do different content are rewarded for doing so, more than what a farming player would be able to get.

I don’t think the problem is karma bro, people are trying to farm GOLD, for exotic gear, dye, crafting, legendaries, repairs, waypoints, gems (see the pattern here). Karma is used for poorly statted (not going to comment on the skins) exotic gear, food ingredients, and salvage kits. In fact, the only “good” thing you get from karma is obsidian shards. I know you’re all cool and you never want 20 slot bags, sexy dye, or sick looking armor with good stats, but some of us like to actually play the game how we WANT to play, the same way we were playing before DR was put into place.

tl;dr your idea isn’t bad, but I think exp and gold rewards should also scale up

They would.

Coin from events are already underwhelming as it stands. I run DEs for their karma and experience reward and have absolutely no problem from it. The mobs spawned by those DEs are the primary source of income.

I bought my dawn as a result of drops from mobs not because I profited from DE rewards. Considering s 1.5 factored increase will only give us a silver increase, I would say in the long run that this would really be insignificant.

What anet needs to do is fix DE for levelling 80s in lower zones to make them more rewarding and worth it because at the moment, every one and anyone at 80 are farming DE in Orr and in that instance are really only farming the path.

Believe me, we do! We want that just as much as you do.
However, we’re reasonable. That’s the difference. The really cool stuff takes a while to get, just like when you were little your mom would make you eat your vegetables before you could have ice cream for dessert, or your parents would make you work for your Atari console instead of just handing it to you. If you want gold, you can have gold, worst case scenario you can go through every zone and gather nodes to sell the materials on the BLTC.

Oooo ooo oooh wait, I forgot, every parent nowadays buys their 6 year old a cool smartphone, I forgot Back in my days I had to earn the right to use the family house phone to talk with a friend for 10 minutes twice a week.

Different times, different times.

More on topic, I don’t think we need extra rewards for playing the game as intended. Actually , to give more rewards for different DEs done, they’d have to reduce the first DE reward to balance things out, which would hurt casual players who might not be able to do 5 DEs to get the full reward.

I wouldn’t dream of farming DE’s for karma there are better ways to do that, if I want to do some crafting it’s different. Then I need to farm for specific mats and as it is atm no matter how I go about it I get a kick in the nuts by DR.

I was laid up for a bit with an injury. Couldn’t play for long periods of time. So, yeah, I parked in a safe place and came out to do a couple repeating DEs. There’s really absolutely nothing wrong or against the game or anything like that for being sedentary, or needing a lot of AFKs.

You want to move around a lot? that’s your reward, is seeing more things.

Really I think ANet has broken more than they’ve fixed by nerfing rewards. The problem is bot-kittens and kitten-bot-gold-spam-kittens. Fix them by shoring up the security of the system. Nerfing the drop rates, thus far, only increases the number of bots farming.

Nerfing drops/payoffs is a clumsy kludge that fails to address the real issue.

OP, that’s fine. You want to be rewarded for doing more varied events. I’m perfectly happy with that. How about not punishing us for JUST PLAYING THE EVENTS AS INTENDED, much less farming it.

This weekend, From Penitent, i ran the the DE’s and started the Arah event chain. We failed one time before the final boss and had to restart. By that point, Diminishing had completely hit and I was getting effectively nothing. That was starting from near the top of the coast down to Arah. that is playing the game as per normal and “intended” by Anet.

We still get a bloody knee to the face for it. In fact, loot stopped dropping 3 or 4 events before the final fight already.

Maybe they should fix what is currently busted first before working on various types of rewards. With the way the code works right now anyway, even your system would hit diminishing returns, except faster…and we’re right back where we started; with a broken system that knees players’ in the face for playing the game.
