I am trying to wrap my head around how we can help ArenaNet make money while allowing the game to feel healthier. How can rewards feel earned instead of bought? A great example is the raid boss miniature being in the gemstore instead of being a drop from that boss. The gemstore has a lot of room for improvements!

Some gemstore problems:
-Not enough interesting sales
-Long lost ticket skins
-Too many ticket skins to buy them all
-Achievement point for BlackLion skins where you can’t own them all without dropping lots of money into the game.
-Bundles should hold things that can also be bought individually
-More interesting Weapon Sets than the base game has to offer

Ideas:
-Retire skins from the gemstore into the game at some point? Molten weapons being an expensive set with CoF tokens.
-Not having anything that could be reward based like raid boss mini’s or gliders, being purchasable in the gemstore.

I hope everyone understands what I am trying to say, just trying to get a discussion started so we can show them how many of us are not as happy with the state of rewards as we could be. I just see this type of thing getting worse and worse

…many people do, but since that stuff is going on for 2 years now and a-net´s reward team made it very clear what they think about balance between gem store and in game rewards…just look at the x-pac, should make it clear as air….sad..sad air…

Ever notice people’s solution to “gem store problems” is always taking stuff out of gem store to put into the game? It is almost as if their main objective is to obtain things for free because they’re too cheap or can’t afford the gem store items (or are greedy). Weird..

I feel you.

WoW might be a sub based game, but atleast you get geared by playing the game.

In GW2 you get geared by buying gems with real money and converting them to gold.

In 1000hours of playtime I haven´t had a single worthwhile drop.

If you really mean you cant get gold very easy without a big value item drop or buy gems, then you dont know how to play the game right. Or you are like most on the forums and just cry for no reason

I felt the game is actually quite rewarding.

The problem is there is a gem store. And people are upset other people can just buy the item with real cash.

And people are inherently greedy and want everything. For example the OP are complaining about he can’t get all the blacklion weapon. I don’t even understand why he think that way. I personally have around 10 blacklion weapon. I only get the one I want.

How do I get an easy 1000g to craft a full ascended set by just playing the game and not grinding?

It is really hard not to make 1 gold per hour in your 1000 hour of play time.

I don’t think getting 1000 gold is the problem. The problem is beside ascended armor, you probably also want pretty skin, extra character slot, bank slot, convenient stuff, and perks.

If you have 1000 hour of play time, you most likely repeated doing something over and over again.

I said it before, most of my money is made from selling legendary. In fact I probably sold like 30 legendary. That is like 25k gold. Even though that is still grinding, but I can play all the content in the game beside just doing “maize balm farm”, “sw farm” etc.

My guess is people don’t do it because they don’t enjoy all the content in the game. For example map completion. Because to make a legendary, you need to do all the content. That being said, I’m sure crafting legendary to sell is much more fun than doing sw.

You sold 30 legendaries? Holy crap.

I have a feeling our definition of grinding and just playing the game casually differs greatly.

What’s weird is how readily the gaming community has accepted ‘micro transactions’ (a term I use loosely, as most cosmetic and convenience items are actually quite pricey relative to the cost of the game itself.)

The issue you’re overlooking is adding value to game play. I feel like I shouldn’t have to explain this, but one of the core elements of the RPG genre is completing content for rewards. The content itself varies, grinding rep points, killing mobs, beating a dungeon or raid. None of these activities are inherently worth repeating without some kind of reward or progression at the end.

Most rational thinking players don’t want skins for free, they simply want stuff added to various parts of the game to add some value. There’s an immense world out there, full of events and activities that lots of players ignore because there is literally no point to any of them.

The Chak and Auric weapon skins I earned by beating story episodes and achievements were a lot more satisfying to earn than the stuff I ran dungeons ad nauseam for gold to buy off the TP. I’m sure a lot of other people feel the same way.

Gold is inherently the reward for a bunch of the content. And it doesn’t matter what rewards Anet add to the chore game, as long as there are interesting stuff for sell on the TP. People will keep complaining.

The gem store is a primary way to keep this game running. It is kind of a necessary evil. MMORPG market is kind of small to make a buy to play work which can compete with other subscription or premium game.

I don’t really know what you been doing with your 1000 hour playing time.

If you just spend 1 hour a day to do fractal you could have a stash full of ascended box by now. I was trying to collected fractal weapon before got a bunch of useless fractal box. Thankfully Anet add the ability to change stats.

How do I get an easy 1000g to craft a full ascended set by just playing the game and not grinding?

FYI, you don’t need much gold to make ascended. Just enough to buy Thermocatalytic Reagent from vendors to craft various ascended mats, otherwise most ascended gear can be crafted for nothing. Learn to salvage every drop and build up your mats in the bank. Sell unwanted stuff. Get out there and start mining. Don’t be lazy looking for the easy route and buying everything from the TP. That’s the exact reason why prices are so high (demand > supply). It took me a couple months to fully acquire my Celestial ascended gear and it cost me next to no gold to make.

Thats not how people like the OP sees it, you lost alot of gold not selling all your materials on the trading post.
So in their mind you did craft it for crap ton of gold bud

Its not that I want all the BL skins, its the idea that AP come from getting them. As end game as it is, its ridiculous to expect it. Instead of complaining about peoples reasons let try and come up with ideas to help the situation. I want the game to succeed, so any ideas?
