Before the patch, you were able to mine rich nodes 10 times at minimum, now you are only able to mine them 8 times. This was not on the patch notes so either it’s a bug or it was a sneaky move by someone. What is the logic in this? Quite absurd if you ask me.

It was always 8 for me, any more was a gathering bonus, either from WvW, a booster, or your guild.

You must’ve just got really lucky.

Yes, Orangensaft shares the same standing point as me. I have always gotten 10 from any rich node whether I was in a guild or not. I never use those boosters either.

I asked my guild and the ones that paid attention/remembered their gathering said it was always 10 as well. To the people that did not remember, I asked them if they had to use the “gather” command three or four times. They responded with four which would mean 10 times.

Your worlds might have always been getting mining buffs from WvW? But I know on several occasions that I would get 8. /shrug

That could be the reason although I was on the Northern Shiverpeaks server a long time ago (which at the time were quite bad at WvW) and always had 10 ticks on a rich node as well. Very, very strange.

I guess it depends if you get gems in that node or not. Ive gotten 4 ticks in a regular node Using watchwork pick and finding gems. Pre patch. The way I understood it was there was only a certain amount of ore to be gained from each node. Rich or otherwise. Finding gems and such dont count, thus requiring extra ticks.

Edit: and by ticks I mean how many times is had to hit gather again.

Unless I some how miscounted, I got 8 on several nodes, but I do admit that I got 10 far more than 8 though.

I have always gotten 10 on rich nodes. Now I’ll have to go see if it’s changed on Borlis Pass. I know that getting EXTRAS with my everlasting tools has dropped considerably in the last several months. (On regular nodes. Used to get extras fairly often, and now it’s a rare occurence. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten extra goodies from a Rich node.)

Maybe they just found a new segment of the population that they haven’t ticked off yet?

You were getting ten hits but they weren’t all ore. Since gems have a high chance to spawn from rich nodes compared to lesser ones, extra hits you noticed were from gems. Possibly you’re on a dry spell.

I noticed it earlier when I tapped a Rich Silver vein, just went and confirmed on a couple Rich Iron. It was 10 strikes, now it’s 8.

I did a lot of Rich Mithril, Platinum, and Iron mining on multiple characters and I can’t remember ever getting less than 10 strikes until I hit that Rich Silver node today and noticed the same thing the OP did. I felt like my character had stopped mining too soon. It used to always be 3, 3, 3, and then 1 more strike before the node showed as depleted. Extras were after that 10 strike pattern when they occurred.

If it had been a matter of the WvW bonus, why wouldn’t I have noticed getting 8 strikes on Fridays and Saturdays before the bonus percentage had accumulated enough to start getting 10 strikes that often? Cause I was certainly out there farming on Fridays and Saturdays as well as the rest of the week.

If I had to guess this is either a bug or they are trying to trim the fat a little from Rich Iron farming. Jumping around the maps hitting the static Rich Iron nodes can add up quickly. Setting it to 8 strikes, down from 10, would potentially reduce the haul by 20%, right? Some of the Rich nodes are static positions regardless of server, so the collecting pattern would still be possible with the zones converting to the megaserver system, unlike Ori nodes which are going to change spawn locations depending on which instance of the map you get into which will slow down Ori gathering a bit.

For example, today I had to memorize 2 or 3 Ori node layouts in Malchor’s as I rotated through my alts and ended up on different copies of the Malchor’s Leap map, but if I was Static Rich Iron hunting then those Rich Iron nodes would still be in their same usual spots, megaserver or not. Reducing them from 10 strikes to 8 would slow down that operation about the same way having to find all the Ori nodes on multiple copies of the same map will slow down Ori gathering.

Rich nodes are 10. Unless they’re lying like the rich ori node in the obsidian jumping puzzle.

To the guys saying it was always 8 I have to say it was always 10 for me. A normal node always gave 3 (with a chance at any extras due to wvw). A rich was 3 × 3 then an extra 1 (which always seemed odd to me I thought they should just have left it at 9 – 3×3) and then any extras you may get from the WvW bonus.

Are you guys seriously telling me you would get 3, swing again for another 3 and the last swing was for 2? Odd, mine was 3, swing for another 3, swing again for 3 more and then that last odd swing for 1. Using the whole swinging animation for that last 1 ore always seemed odd to me.

It was always 10 for me. The wiki agrees: “Rich mining veins can be mined ten times as opposed to three…”

I should be writing.
