Not a big deal at the moment given the lack of end game underwater content, but just something to keep in mind. It would be nice to be able to use the Rime-Rimmed Mariner’s Rebreather ice particle effect on ascended Aquatic Headgear. Currently the effect is tied to the item itself. Perhaps it could be updated to be tied to the skin? Or maybe add an ascended version of the item to be obtainable next Wintersday? Anyway it’s just a feature I think would be nice to see.

I am really hoping that ANet does completely away with underwater breathers — we don’t need them to breathe and all they do is force us to worry about a 7th rune, that might not even be useful for underwater combat.

In this scenario fantasy of mine, they’d turn the rime-rimmed effect into an aura that could be applied in some other way, e.g. via an infusion slot (and perhaps maintain the “only underwater” aspect, too).

That icy effect really should not be a traditional aura. Too similar to Howler’s.
