I’m a nerd I’m a nerd I’m a nerd….

Really OP? Really????

You are a nerd too <3

I support this thread, support for RP so far is non existent.
The game does not even regognize typing as doing something so if you do not move every 20minutes or so while RPing you get kicked out for being afk

I never said I wanted the bullcrap Bioware is/was making with their recent RPGs, I was talking (did you ever took the time to read ? I wonder…) about real rpgs like the MegaTen, Golden Sun, Gothic (all of them), Tales of (any of them), etc.

You know, with story, player and story depth, stuff like that ?

You’re joking, right… ? With the exception of Gothic (which is awful for its own reasons), all of those are incredibly linear, glorified Japanese adventure games featuring angsty, teenage plots.

If you want a good Japanese RPG, play Demon’s Souls or something, not these.

I don’t mind “carving” my story with other people, it’s just that, right now, it sucks. Big time.

So basically you’re blaming the game for a personal problem. Excellent criticism.

So, yeah, if it could be like DnD, hey ! Heaven’s here boys ! I’d be happy like a child at christmas eve !

Yeah, uh… I sincerely doubt that.

So, yep, you got the wrong impression. Nice try though.

I did, and it’s even worse than I could imagine.

While I find all the insulting and belittling of the OP really disgusting and immature (like Amok’s childish post, meant to be “funny”), I just wanted to add that there’s plenty of RP detail given to our characters vs older games in which people still role-played effectively. One doesn’t even need as much detail as we are currently privileged with on this one in order to role-play our characters-these things fall into the realm of nice to have things to have that aren’t really essential, nor should ANet be really blamed for not “catering enough” to the role-players, IMHO (should they have surplus money to assign a team to do these things without hampering anything else, that would be cool, though that’s probably not high priority in their lists, considering all the Charr armor clipping which they SHOULD fix-no offense intended.)

I actually feel immersed with my characters, and even feel bad about having so many character options and still wanting more (more character creation options and additional emotes can’t be a bad thing). I also hate nitpicking on someone else’s characters when they are not “realistic” or “lore-correct” because THEY ARE NOT MY CHARACTERS, NOR SHOULD I FORCE OTHERS TO ROLEPLAY THEIRS AS I DO MY OWN (though this is another discussion best left for another thread). Yes, I wish all the emotes from GW1 made it in here too, but it doesn’t mean people can’t role-play as usual as in other RP games… waves and silently bows out of the current discussion

In short, people are just too spoiled from other games’ RP attention to detail, while ignoring that in effect, we have plenty of that to immerse ourselves with in already. I feel one could ask for these things politely without going all the extremist way of saying “ANet hates role-players”-which isn’t true at all.

The saddest sadness here is that a strong RP element WAS planned. But was not introduced. To be precise – has not been completed. 30 + promised minigames. The ability to use whatever comes to hand as a weapon. Changing aspects of the character etc. Feel sorrowfully when I imagine how it COULD be.

Admittedly the first thing I do in a game (rpg/mmo/fps even) after the standard tutorial is over is try to sit.

If Steam showed hours sat as well as hours played for Skyrim I would be embarrassed.

RPG elements extend the life of a game [no citation offered] in a way that is probably beyond the grasp of a marketer/accountant to quantify. Not a single dungeon or world boss needs to be designed on a regular basis to continue to satisfy this player base [dog ate my citation, sorry].

There are many ways to implement RPG elements, many ways to solve this “problem” and other designers from small to large games have done it. Just a question of priorities and how developers value various segments of the player base. Who knows, maybe RPG’ers just aren’t worth it in reality [maybe the devs have secret citations for that I haven’t seen].

The game has a lot of potential for RP. It is intended to be here. But it is not fully realized. All can be seen in small details. For example the system of personality. The problem in the process of realization. We have a service for changing hairstyles, right? Why not add a barbershops? We have city clothing. Why not add stores where it is sold. Why not add a city game events in which it can be received. Why not make a places where it will be needed. Something similar was in Lord of the Rings Online. In my opinion, if the developers have focused on finalizing of RP elements, everything can be finished in a couple of months.

I would be amazed if RPers ’aren’t worth it;’ they are willing to spend money on vanity items, and aren’t clamoring for new endgame content every thirty seconds.

I do not quite understand why the developers ignore RP element. Games built around of role-playing aspect attracted great attention of the public (such as ArcheAge for example, or even such a strange thing like terraria). RP – it’s the kind of thing that can not be bad if it exists. It can only be sufficient. No one ever complains about the RP minigames, sandbox elements, musical instruments, abundance of animation and emotes, interactive environments, dialogues, etc. Their lack is evident at once.

I think developers should concentrate on the adding and polishing of RP-elements for a couple of months. Huge base of potential already available. I think it would attract more players than disposable story instances or extra 5 days of grind for another mini.

I can give you a citation: Star Wars: Galaxies. Due to it’s volume of emotes and animations, player cities and housing, ability to create temporary structures in the open world and even sitting on chairs, I played the game right up to closure. It was simply the most supportive RP environment I’ve come across.

Re sitting in chairs, it took STO three years to get around to redesigning the coding and chairs so that players can sit on them. If you have played it you will know the huge range of shapes and sizes that players can create. I assume that’s why it took them so long.

RPers are immensely loyal to their characters and they will remain with a game for years. They will also pay for items that enhance RP, especially clothing and furniture for houses. They will scour the game world for lootable items to place in their homes and happily spend hours crafting furniture and decorating their homes.

I will add that many non-Rpers also enjoy the above aspects too.

I would love to be able to talk to the devs and pass on ways of making GW2 the most supportive RP environment yet!

GW didn’t have server but districts instead. Stop throwing strawman arguments at me lol, getting mad or what?

Mad, at you? Never.

It’s not a strawman argument. You’re a guy who’s constantly comparing Guild Wars 1 to Guild War 2. Guild Wars 2 follows Guild Wars 1 in the non-specialized server strategy. There’s no real reason for it here. It’s not like everyone can’t guest over to TC or Piken Square to RP.

yes, +1

unfortunately, a game adding RP elements after release is more rare than a unicorn
