Guild Wars 2

What is the deal with the rollbacks. I log in today only to see that many of the zone completions I was working on last night are undone. I’m also missing coin I made. Other guildies are complaining of the same thing. This has happened more then once the last few weeks. What’s the deal??

Servers crashed last night, and apparently when they brought them back up some people lost info about what they did around the time of the crash. These things happen, it’s only a game it’s not like your employer “lost” your work records for the last week and claims he doesn’t have to give you a paycheck because he doesn’t know whether you were at work or not.

Ah the good ole “only a game” argument. So let’s say we’re in the Superbowl, team A scores the winning touchdown, but then the refs decide to rollback 30 minutes of play because they weren’t paying attention. That wouldn’t be outrageous at all, now would it. After all, it’s only a game, right?

And you think this is even remotely acceptable?

These things don’t happen. I hate to be so negative, but I’ve never had this happen in an MMO before. Even when items simply disappeared, servers stopped working, or anything else, the items were always there when things got sorted out. That this could happen (and I doubt I was affected so it’s not even personal) is just not good.

I accept it, life is full of disappointments. As such things go, this is so minor as to be almost unnoticable.

And I don’t like football, so what happens during the Superbowl is irrelevant.

Life is full of people who choose to live with disappointment. Others, like me, prefer to take an active approach in making things better. Also, analogies are a time-honored tradition in forum posting, lol.

It’s also a terrible idea for customers to accept mediocrity from those they patronize, especially when its been demonstrated that their errors can be avoided – and especially when the errors are of such a immense variety.

Honestly, losing character progress/items/etc. is probably the one thing in an MMO that should never, ever, ever happen. Other bugs and problems are to be expected, but this kind of stuff is in a way sacrosanct.

We’re not even talking about 5, 10 minute rollbacks. I got rolled back almost 2 hours, the server didn’t actually try to disconnect me until I tried to zone, even though what I’m doing stopped being saved long before that. How is that acceptable? What kind of third world country do you have to live in to think that this is what is supposed to happen?

Also this isn’t the superbowl, its a brand new videogame a few weeks into release. This is not real, it’s a videogame, not the superbowl. Your real world comparisons are irrelevant.

Quick test to tell if this is Guild Wars 2 or the Superbowl though:

- If you see men running about on a field in a stadium, chasing an egg shaped object around, you are most likely to be at the super bowl.

- If you are in a dynamically changing world designed beautifully, and are controlling an avatar via mouse and keyboard, you are most likely to be playing Guild Wars 2.

I lost a few hours, I couldn’t care less. The fact that it’s progression in a videogame shows me that I don’t even need to be upset. I personally am just happy that my life is comfortable enough to afford me the time to play them. But then again, I have my priorities in order.

You know one of the best ways to solve issues is to keep telling those who are already fixing them there was an issue. That really helps cause it’s like someone standing over your shoulder while you pee going “Pee, keep peeing, you can do it, pee pee pee”.

I don’t see how you are misinterpreting me in thinking I want a rollback. I am glad that you pointed out that the Superbowl is “real.” I got a chuckle out of that one.

it’s really funny how you fanboys can even make it sound like we’re the ones wrong here. do you really think that or you’re just fanboying for the sake of it.

anyways, all we’re saying here is this isn’t acceptable and it should not ever happen again. I can’t just break your leg, offer to fix it for you and break it again 2 weeks later and think that it’s completely ok, because it’s not.

They are both games, both forms of entertainment, and both cost money to participate. They are more apples to apples than I think you are seeing.
