Royal Tarrace Pass
It has been brought up before, pretty much since the inception of the pass (2 years ago?). It doesn’t really seem like an unreasonable request since both the HoM stone, home instance portal and also the guild hall button all send you back to where you came from.
Didn’t know the home instance could send you back to your starting location. Is it correct that the Noble’s Folly Pass can and you back to your starting location too?
There really isn’t a reason to change it. The royal terrace pass and and captain’s airship pass have always worked like this. Instead of waiting for this change to not happen, it’s easier to go to the PvP lobby or guild hall (if you have access to it) for banking and merchant needs.
Zombie | God | For the Pass!
The difference seems to be where you go. If the item sends you to an instance or a map that’s outside regular PvE maps or constructed differently than the normal PvE maps (guild halls, home instances, WvW/PvP) then when you leave that map you’ll return to your spot in PvE. If it takes you from a spot in PvE to another spot in PvE (Royal Terrace, Airship Pass) then you won’t return to where you were.
Essentially the Royal Terrace pass acts as a waypoint. To return you need to waypoint back.
ANet may give it to you.
It really should be so. Royal Terrace Pass, Lava Lounge Pass, etc.

Yup, this. Since the special areas like the Royal Terrace aren’t instances and are instead just blocked off parts of the main map they sit in (DR for the Royal Terrace, Gendarran Fiels for the Airship Pass, etc.), they won’t drop you back at your former location.

If it does have such functionality then it is time to bring out the pitchforks.
The home instance portal only allows you to return to your same spot if you don’t step out of the home instance. There have never been any bundles/gizmos that allow you to enter a city and return to the open world.
The difference is if you leave your home instance the return trip is canceled. I have no idea why that item would be preferred because I can do nothing worth while in my home instance so why would I need an item to port me there and back. At least there’s a few things I can do in a Guild Hall.
RIP City of Heroes

There is only a limited merchant (sell) in DR. When you are a human.

Pretty sure the Noble’s Folley pass doesn’t have that functionality. Can anyone confirm?

If you rather sell stuff to an NPC vendor then great, I prefer to actually make money, or restock on gathering tools and salvage kits (well not anymore but at one time). Short of one time gathering of nodes you bought, your traveling to and from your home instance is fairly pointless.

A number of people have home instances with a variety of gathering nodes. It’s possible for these people to do a fast daily using the home instance. In that case the home portal stone is a convenience item that allows the person to be able to pop into the home instance from wherever they are in the map, harvest, get the daily and return to where they were. Like all conveniences some will like it and some will find it pointless. The home portal stone is for those that like this convenience.

I actually don’t mind that it doesn’t take me back to where I was because I always go to the Terrace once I’m done in a zone and I don’t want to go back at all.

I understand that, but it’s a one time thing. The thread is about the displeasure that the royal terrace pass doesn’t return you like the noble one does and someone brought up the home instance portal stone. But the home instance one is pointless if returning to a city to unload/restock is your motivation. As soon as you leave your home instance the return trip is lost. People don’t use the royal terrace pass just to farm their home instance.

According to the one person in my guild who owns one and is online right now the Noble’s Folly pass doesn’t let you go back to where you were either.
Trying to use the pass when you’re already inside just gives you an error message and the only locations you can travel to from there are the cities.
