This has happened to me twice now. I used a orichalcum harvesting tool on a passiflora node and recived ruined fibre. Is this a known bug or an oddity. Anyone else experiance this as well.

Were you in combat by any chance? Because being in combat has the chance for a ruined wood/ore/fiber when gathering.

I’ve had it happen many a time… using master tools and other special tools, when much lesser tools worked to produce the proper item. Usually it happens with harvesting plants, but I’ve also had it happen with chopping trees and mining ore (although, obviously, you don’t get fiber then).

I /bug it when it happens, not that I think ANet is ever going to bother fixing bugs… I’ve begin to think that finding bugs are one of the mini-games to occupy our time. [/sarcasm]

You know I was prior to the gathering, However I belive I was out by then It was a node farther down the road from the combat spot. It is good to know the chance for a ruined fiber is incresed while being in combat. I did not know that.

Yeah I submitted a bug report on it. I couldn’t find a post in the forums about it. So it seems to be a common issue. I never noticed it before untill now since i don’t run anything less then a ori harvesting tool on my 80’s. Thanks for the replies guys.

I’ve had it happen, but only with ori sickles, and only passiflora. Get dinged in combat. It has happened at lower levels and I harvest fine. Doesn’t seem to happen on Mithril nodes either.

It happened with me using a mithril harvesting sickle.

Until just recently I had only experienced this with Ori tools, but the other day it happened with a Mithril or Darksteel tool as well while gathering platinum.

I have it happen often. I think its a chance for this to happen in combat. But define combat. This also relates to a topic of another bug where you die whilst transferring maps (in WvW) whilst in combat. You die. But if you walk away from combat, theres still a chance you will die. It appears though the server has a hard time changing your status from being “in combat” or “not in combat” and even though you were tagged some 30 seconds ago and lost aggro, you may still be viewed by the server as being “in combat” and subsequently die when you transfer in wvw or get a ruin plant fibre whilst gathering.

i once activated the elementalist hurricane elite skill when i was mining the rich ori at southsun, suddenly saw ruined ore popping up… quickly backed off… lol
