Rumors about fractal drops
15-30 minutes per run at easier level
From the big thread:
How come anyone could still say this is not an horrible gear grind?[snip]
I made a post kind of putting this into perspective compared to the game’s existing dungeons:
So, I’m sure it’s been hashed out to death, but I just saw the “guide” to the dungeon, along with the picture of the rewards, and the description of how you get the tokens.
Now, it’s pretty clear from the icon (looking like part of the glowy piece from Linsey’s original blog), the stats (particularly that there are two ‘sets’ of stats, and one of them is ‘baked-in’), the name (“Prototype”) that the Prototype Fractal Capacitor is the precursor item to the Ascended back piece.
It’s also pretty clear (we’ve been told that the Ascended piece comes from a Mystic Forge recipe) that to get the Ascended piece is going to require the Prototype Exotic model, the “Gift of Ascension”, and possibly two other recipe components. The Prototype Fractal Capacitor costs 1350 tokens, and the Gift is an additional 500. So the token cost is roughly on par with the cost of a full set of dungeon equipment, including weapons. For one piece.
The rate at which you get tokens, at least according to the information that that site has, is 5 tokens per ‘Fractal’, with each ‘Fractal’ taking 15-30 minutes. So the rate at which you acquire the tokens is slower than it was to get Dungeon tokens at launch (before they quadrupled the daily bonus and moved all the tokens to the last chest, in response to complaints about the massive, tedious grind).
So much for “Hey, maybe it won’t be too that bad.”
If you assume the most optimistic versions of those numbers (that you complete every Fractal in 15 minutes rather than 30, and that you don’t need to worry about a third and fourth Mystic Forge component when upgrading from Exotic to Ascended), it’s about ninety hours of grinding, for one piece.
The only thing that might alleviate a little of this is that we don’t know whether or not the number of tokens per Fractal increases as you go deeper, and if it does increase, we don’t know how far you have to go before it starts going up. But at the same time, we also don’t know 1) How deep you can go before Agony starts to kick in, or 2) How deep you can go before Agony effectively makes progress impossible without Infused equipment.
Bottom line, it’s not at all a pessimistic projection to imagine that Guild Wars 2 now takes just as long to gear up in as any other EverQuest clone in the world.
Yep. Well, sorry, no, that’s not true.
It’s actually closer to 2000.
So I shouldn’t login to see the patch… got it

Short answer: Yes.
Looks like my decision to quit the game is valid. Yuck.
Naturally everyone conveniently ignores that the number of tokens rewarded scales up with the difficulty so the numbers being thrown around here are grossly over-exaggerated…
how long does it take to grind for legendary gear?

Yet, you need the infusions to resist agony to progress very much further.
We don’t actually know how far you can get without infusions so making any claims about that is pointless.

I would think that anet tends to set high difficulty bosses like the one in straits of destruction. Any casual players will find it impossible to farm that fractals, punishing them in wvw for that ‘you don’t need to grind’ mentality.

Tehe….well people wanted a grind get to it
Actually I said right in that post that we don’t know if token rewards scale up (they probably do, but that’s an assumption – my optimistic assumptions about this patch have been dead wrong so far), and if they do, we don’t know how fast they scale up with Fractal difficulty level.
However I also pointed out that we don’t know when Agony kicks in, how gradually or quickly it builds up, and we don’t know when Agony becomes so much of an impediment that it is effectively impossible to progress.

To add to this. The new zerker ascended ring, for example, has 4+4 = 8% crit damage compared to 3+3 = 6% crit damage. Multiply by 4, add in the necklace which is about a 4-5% total increase, plus backpiece 1-2%, you get 15% more crit damage from just trinkets. Once they add armor, that will sit right around 40-50% more.
150% crit damage and about 5-10% more critrate in ascended zerker compared to exotic zerker. 2-3 shotting anyone without ascended gear with autoattacks? Not an exaggeration anymore – it’s the future.
And let’s not get started on the other stat combinations. It’s a nightmare, perhaps we are all dreaming, maybe it’s really April 1 right now?

I heard some rumors about 1000+ fractals to make an item, and the fractal drop is 5 per run?
Guild Wars 2 isn’t a game…it’s a 9-to-5 job. O_O

Obviously. How else will those CEOs at NCSoft, Anet and Nexon (yes, Nexon – 15%+ shares in NCSoft since June!) retain their 7-figure incomes?

Seriously, the feedback here falls on deaf ears, we should write to nexon and ncsoft instead. At least they are happy to turn the screws.
There’s a variable that you’ve probably not taken into consideration.
The items that you think you’ll have to grind for could actually be given as a boss/chest drop. So I wouldn’t look too far into it until it’s proven otherwise.

Nexon has a habit of telling customers to kitten a cactus.
When a friend told me that they were the largest shareholder of NCsoft, I was no longer surprised that GW2 took a turn like this. Not in the least.
Still no “LFG” option of separate UI for PVE dungeons.
We still have to spam /map and beg for people to do dungeons with us??
How long does a simple kittening function like this take to complete?

Uhh… ANet’s chest drop rate during halloween was abysmal. I don’t expect anything from ANet after that. If anything, the drop rate is so low till one can only call it grinding. Anything that rewards the players too much will definitely be nerfed, hardly buffed. But yeah, this is really the last straw.
Relying on pure stat items to give players combat progression? kitten Anet. What were you thinking.
Yep. Well, sorry, no, that’s not true.

But you can guarntee if it is 2.000, aNet will change it later to like 15,000. Just for shiats and giggles. I dunno their track record on each patch seemed to go in the. “How can we make this more annoying to the players.” direction.

Yeah, whenever a player gets their max gear squared away too quickly and can then enjoy the game at their own pace, that’s a BIIIIG no-no. Can’t have players choosing how they want to play!

No,tokens do not scale up…the only thing you get is 30 per day (if you manage to kill the last boss) and also the last boss gives 15 tokens…but no matter what difficulty you are,you will always get 5 per fractal
Guildmate already built an ascended backpack. You don’t need all those token items.
