With the relatively recent patch that essentially requires re-evaluation of all your gear, it is really time to stop preventing us from salvaging karma, wvw, and other unsalvegable exotic armor and weapons. Runes and sigils are trapped in gear with stats that we can do nothing about. The game provides no feedback that they will be locked in there.

I do not consider the the extractor that costs real money an alternative. After a forced change it is not customer friendly and does not promote good will. I have some suggestions solutions.

1. Allow salvaging of the above gear to retrieve runes and sigils.

2. Make all sigils and runes obtainable without means of RNG, either through crafting, quests, dungeons, or some other kind of unlock.

3. Give every player 200-300 g per level 80 character to rebuild their equipment.

Please do something about this. It does not have to be one of the three above, but this is just frustrating. Thanks.

Actually, the wiki does indicate which items are salvageable and which aren’t.

I feel for ya, but it’s one of the choices that need to taken into consideration in advance.

1. The reason they don’t allow you to salvage karma, WvW and story armor is to protect the games’ economy. They’re trying to keep the currencies as separate as possible, otherwise you’ll see tons of players destroying the trading post. Its a feature that needs to be intact, they won’t change it.

They should add a karma/badges salvage kit that only works on karma/badges gear. When you use them you get vials or karma or badges back (instead of the raw mats) and the rune/sigil. This way you get your rune/sigil back and the economy isn’t affected.

2. You know that out of all the runes, only 16 aren’t obtainable via crafting, karma or dungeon tokens? Out of all the sigils, 31 of them aren’t obtainable via crafting, karma or dungeon tokens and of those 31, 14 of them are slayer sigils that no one would normally want.

Over 70% of all sigils and runes are obtainable via crafting, dungeons or karma. And over half of the sigils obtained via RNG are the undesirable slayer ones, so you could say 75-80% of desirable sigils and runes are obtainable via crafting, dungeons or karma.

Just saying, #2 isn’t really something you can really complain about since every game needs some RNG system for loot and when it comes to sigils and runes, its a very small issue.

3. They announced these changes 3 months ago in detail for players to get ready for the changes, something they never do, normally.

They up’d players base stats and gear stats to compensate for the stat drops. The only reason you would really need to re-gear is if you suddenly decided to change your build completely, which is a choice. When players choose to change their builds before the patch, they had to go out and get new gear, so why do you expect them to not keep that same system with the new patch? They offered a way to change ascended armor, which was already really nice of them to do for us, I don’t really see an issue with exotic armors.


tl:dr
They should implement a system to salvage karma and WvW armor, that doesn’t break the trading post. But you shouldn’t cry over exotic gear, unless you’re a PvE scrub.

buy upgrade extractor from Gem Store.
ANET gets the money and have a laugh at how it is not enough to fund the whole HoT,
You get poorer by 20 USD.
