Well I had an idea after getting scared of sending stuff to my brothers because I might get banned.

My idea is to add a feature where we can link accounts as family. That way you can send stuff to the linked family accounts without fear of getting banned. Or you can send a text to both account that says to the sender "Did you send X to recipient " and to the recipient "Did you receive X from the sender " when a flag is raised.

Gold sellers would not use this because they would leave a trail of linked accounts that would trace to the original account.

Or you could just put stuff in the text boxes? They know ips as well. I’ve send gold and items back and forth between my two accounts and…. well, I’m not banned for it.

Sorry for my english, but what do you mean? Adding a message in the textbox saying something like “sending X to my brother’s account”?

You’ve got nothing to worry about unless you’re sending or receiving large amounts of gold or valuable items on a regular basis. And by large amounts I mean hundreds of gold each time.

The vast majority of people who send and receive items (and trust me lots of people do) will never even raise suspicion from Anet.

And honestly there’s a good chance the vast majority of those who come to the forum to loudly protest their innocence after they were banned because a generous friend sent them a gift know perfectly well they did something wrong (meaning they bought the “gift” from an illegal gold seller) but somehow think pleading innocence will help.

Still, a family security would be good to further protect accounts.

They can see where the gold originally came from when gold is transferred between accounts. In case of a mistake on support’s part and when sending large sums of gold, you can make a comment in chat or email such as, I’m sending you X gold for Y reasons. When I loaned a guildie several hundred gold so he could craft a Legendary I sent the gold with an email stating how much gold, the reasons and the terms of agreement.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

So if an account is flagged as family, it is safe from Anet banning/intervention? Why then would one not make their gold seller part of their family to protect the account?

because it would send a txt to the account for the transaction, just like a bank account.

If the person that receives the txt did not make such transaction, he/she will be able to contact anet, to cancel transaction.

BTW, this is for when a security flag is raised.

I don’t see how that would make a difference or stop people from claiming gold sellers as family.

So your brother “GoldSellerOne” sends a text to your account when he sends you 100g. How does that help if Anet is flagged to ignore family accounts?

No, ok, let me see if my English doesn’t fail me.

In real life you can add security to a bank account, in the form of a text.

What the bank does is send a text each time a transaction is made with the bank account to the owner of the account with the information.

This way if the owner did not make the transaction it can tell the bank account and possible breaches can be prevented or undone.

Now the family stuff is more of an additional security question.

But the text doesn’t help, since people engage with gold sellers willingly. They are not even solicited — they seek them out. So the text will come from the seller and the buyer will agree. There is no security breech or hacking or any such thing happening. Thus the family status and text verification do not help.

If you login from the same IP, the accounts are linked. That also means however that if one gets banned, they’re all banned.

So if you live in the same house, your brother’s account bought with his money gets banned, your account bought with your money gets banned also?

Actually I kind of doubt this. Too many people who live together or close together and play the game shouldn’t be banned because one of them did something.

I do think some sort of “family account” to use your term would be a good thing, but implementing it would be challenging. What happens when you’ve linked an account and the personal relationship fractures? What then?

If your linked “friend” does something that breaks the rules, are you an accomplice?

Exactly how far does this “family” or “friendship” linking carry?

I can see Anet not wanting to touch such things with a ten foot norn.

Gold sellers take advantage of any/all features like this, because they don’t care about getting caught — they use accounts created with stolen credit cards or smurf accounts using stolen login credentials. This is why there’s a limit on the gold we can withdraw per week from email and from guild banks.

Further, despite alarmists posting on the forums and on reddit, this really doesn’t happen that often. People with multiple accounts ship gold and items regularly (generally one way, from secondary to primary accounts) and only a tiny, tiny fraction ever has an issue (and it’s usually quickly cleared up via a support ticket).

tl;dr there’s zero reason to fear sending stuff in the mail between friends or family.
