i’m a leatherworker trying to make more armour for wearing and also for deconstruction to make legendaries.

Should i sell the Bloodstone Warped Hides from “farming” Lake doric or should i open them for the Thick Leather Section.

i’m not good with number, i’m sure some of you people are.

Which one is more profitable or beneficial way of getting the thick leather sections. Selling the Bloodstone Warped hides, and then buying thick leather section, or opening them and see how much i get?

Short story: you are personally going to be better off by “salvaging all”.

Medium story: you’d have to regularly check the market and aggressively sell hides and buy sections (or squares), depending on what you find.

You can save some time by using a site such as gw2profts.com, which keeps track of drop rates + market prices for salvaged items (as well as a variety of containers). But if you’re “not good with numbers,” it’s unlikely that you’ll turn enough of a profit compared to salvaging that it’s worth the extra time, the extra effort, and the extra headache that comes with taking advantage of the ‘arbitrage’ effects.

Background:

Generally speaking, once an item has been available for a week or more, the market price of the contents is always going to be ‘close’ to the market price of the item itself. There are various exceptions and variations, especially depending on what you mean by ‘close’. Essentially, it means that the price of soft wood planks is “around the same” as the price of the two logs required to make it & the buy|sell of a salvage item is “around the same” as the buy|sell of the average value of the things into which it deconstructs.

At any given point in time, there will be differences: the two logs will typically be cheaper than a plank when the price of planks starts increasing and vice versa when it’s dropping. However, the price rises & falls on an hourly and daily basis.

People with a knack for markets can sense patterns or at least, figure out ways to be always buy the cheaper of the two and sell the pricier.

In other words, salvage as you go, secure in the knowledge that you’re pretty darn close to getting as much leather as you can for the time you invested.

So I have a custom spreadsheet I made that pulls in what you would probably get from salvaging and what they could be sold for on the TP:

Gross
Salvage Offer 5.57
Salvage Bid 5.07
Hide Price Offer 5.59
Hide Price Bid 5.09

Net of TP
Salvage Offer 4.74
Salvage Bid 4.31
Hide Price Offer 5.59
Hide Price Bid 5.09

Ironically the hides are trading exactly at their no-arbitrage price if you don’t account for trade post taxes. Obviously the idea here would be that if you salvage the mats you keep them and don’t pay the TP tax because since they are both the same price, -15% on both is the same number.

TLDR: salvage

Long story: hoard them because leather prices will continue to go up net of the ascended changes and arbitrage might change.
