And ALL the time. Unfortunately, I died in the Straits of Devastation. The worm spitting giant got me. So where can I rez? Fort Trinity!!! There were 7 other waypoints much closer but they are all contested, and they are always contested.

So I broke out my cell phone and began to play a game on it while waiting for a waypoint to become uncontested. I am still waiting. I wish there was a 30 minute time limit for waypoints to be contested.

it frustrated me when i first got there too. There are a few in each orr zone that are walled in and less frequently contested than others. you really have to slowely and diliberately move through orr if you’re going it solo because you may have to start way back at the beginning. They also bait you with resource nodes that are very dangerous and pull you off course. took me a week to get a good foot hold into the straights.

This is by design, though. If there aren’t players willing to fight to hold the land from the undead, the undead will reclaim it. It’s the dynamic in Dynamic Events.

You can always go and fight to uncontest the waypoint. You could even ask in /map for people to help out too. I’m sure there are people that want those waypoints to get uncontested too… maybe they just need a point person to rally around.

Don’t hold your breath. You may need to bring a couple groups to open up those areas.

For the temples, I ended up deciding to get the gear wherever I could and then put on diff runes, rather than hope to find Lyssa’s vendor up. And don’t even think about Balthazar.

It is a bad design, especialy if the area is new to a player. The Risen mobs are very annoying at most, which makes the zone an annoyance. Basicly you have to just run to each waypoint and unlock it, eventhough it will be contested 99% of the time. The more waypoints you unlock the better you are. so instead of 7 waypoints away it could be 5 away.

Not sure why the devs made the Ruins of Orr to be such an annoyance of a zone that we have to rush through in hopes to unlock that next waypoint thay may or may not be contested.

Orr zones are some of the most frustrating zones in the game. Not because of the difficulty but because of all the annoying mobs and their stuns, pulls, knockdowns, cripples, etc.

Unfortunately Orr is the only place where level 80 gear and mats are, so people go there to farm.

Basically my point is that Orr needs to be redesigned from the ground up to make it less frustrating, which would entice more people to do other things rather than farming Plinx or Shelter Camp with a huge mob of players.

Ever watch a zombie movie? The one lone survivor desperately fleeing from the zombies that dog his or her every step? Grasping and clawing and trying to drag them down so that the horde can feast on their flesh? That lone survivor running from shelter to shelter, possibly fortifying it for a night or two before having to flee again?

Maybe that was the idea behind Orr?

Willingness or lack thereof has nothing to do with it. There aren’t enough players IN THE ZONES to actually hold them.

the 80 zone does, but the other two is impossible to do most of the events in because there just aren’t enough players to go around, and the “players” that do run around there are for the most part just botters i can’t be arsed reporting anymore anyway.

These events are great as long as the zones are populated, once said zone population starts to dwindle it’s game over for the few that sticks around…

Also remember that most events in orr doesn’t take player numbers into the equation, they zerg you with just as many undead no matter if there’s just one player or 20 doing it.

Just an unfortunate side effects of not enough ppl playing in the maps. Everyone hates Orr due to it’s high mob density. Hardly anyone ever goes there. Most of 4 maps that comprises Orr are a ghost town. That’s why almost all of the WP in Orr are contested most of the time. I agree with Braindrops give more rewards/money for clearing up the WP on a daily basis. Give the players incentive to clean up the town. The only area that has remote good number of players in are the Cursed Shore and only due to ppl running the event circuit. Strait of Devastation and Strait of Malchor are pretty much ghost towns.

You fight your way in (and no, the spawn wont get you).

Except here and there that the respawn are dirty high, like some skill points.

Orr is supposed to be hard, right?

They could have made it tough without the annoyance factor. The reason hardly any game in existence gives ‘trash’ mobs crowd control skills is because those sorts of mobs always go around in packs and it is more frustrating than fun being pulled all over the place.

This is the entire fundamental problem with Orr. Put a MUCH longer timer on the Plinx event and make people actually move around the zone to do the events. In fact, make it so each of the temples has to be controlled for ANY events in that vicinity to pop other than the taking of the temple.

people will bicker and bellyache all they want about Orr is supose to be hard Etc, Etc.

But the bottom line really is…..There is an extremely fine line between something that is hard and something that is just down right annoying, and Orr and all the mobs in it is down right annoying. You wonder why there are no bodies in Orr most of the time? It is an annoying place, and the reason why the way points are always contested? Do to the lack of players in Orr.

I don’t think that statement even made sense. If people are saying that Orr is supposed to be hard, chances are they accept that as part of gameplay and have no belly aches about it.

Additionally, I do believe it was put forth by people saying that they didn’t like the way Orr was set up who made the first post. To most people, this would qualify as belly aching.

But the bottom line really is…..There is an extremely fine line between something that is hard and something that is just down right annoying, and Orr and all the mobs in it is down right annoying. (Do → Due o_o)

Not everyone agrees with where your fine line sits. I find entertainment in running through Orr with my guardian friend, and one second I’m right beside her, next I’m getting yanked to the side and she’s chasing after me. (I’m always the one to aggro them of the two of us.)

So, in the end, annoyance sounds like a personal problem. Orr is designed to be the way it is, and if you’re annoyed, then Orr has done its job.

But since now zones are ghost-towns everything crumbles: players can’t do events because there’s too few of them → players get frustrated and leave → even less players – > fail.

While I agree the game needs to be challenging, it is annoying that there are some many mobs in the straits. It’s even worse when you story line takes you through the area and you have no choice but to engage the large numbers of dead just to get to your next story line quest. And how am I to even get to all the points of interest and view points when they are surrounded by mobs all the time. The quests are hard enough as it is, I should not be having my rear end handed to be just to get to those quest instances.

You can’t argue it is by design when the Arah chain event is broken as well as the one for meladru’s temple.
You are left with Grenth that sadly requires a tiny amount of thinking regarding the shades, and sadly when the zerg mentality kicks in it…well there is just no way you are going to get that temple cleared until peak hour where more experienced guilds are out playing to pick up the pace.

The other temples in Straits and Malchor ? Since Fractals has been released, these zones are deserted. I remember playing there before Fotm and sure it was hard to get the temples taken…but it happened because there were players.Right now ghost towns except for the levelers that are far and few between… all rushing to lvl80 and then it is most likely they won’t return to these two areas.

So while grenth is definitely a player issue, giving no incentive to capture the other temples or leaving them bugged isn’t helping the players either.

Farm grenth with the zerg OR die trying. Right now grenth is cleared maybe once a day…or twice, if you are lucky to log in when that happens.

I’m sitting on a pile of karma…ready to buy my final piece of gear, but it’s been days since I managed to log-in and find a temple cleared at that time. I know it is a bit of a selfish point-of-view, “I want my gear and I want it now”…but with other bugged chains and players generally not being very good at clearing grenth…well I’m stuck lol.

I think this issue is a mixture of players and design working badly together…fix the others temples, give us more incentive to clear the others (that arent currently bugged) and I’m sure the players now presented with more options will bloom and get better at clearing your content.

I always thought it would be amazing if the 5 temples were cleared at the same time, then the 6th would rise from the ocen (or something equally epic) and that temple would have a dragon fight with epic loot due to the effort to organize such a plan (and also motivate them I guess :p players are greedy creatures afterall).

I mean…wouldn’t that be just epic, imagine 5 commanders organizing these fights all at the same time…all to unlock the final epic temple.

This would bring back some life to Orr surely ?

Also, the idea that “to make bosses harder and more difficult, multiply their toughness and HP pools, leaving their simple attack patterns in tact. the bigger the red bar, the harder it is.”

orr could be better if the Risen did not pull. you can evade the chills, and kind of deal with cripple, and the chompy thing is annoying to listen to, but the pulls are stupid and lazy. i got chased to the top of a hill, and the pull axe came up and over the hill to grab me. the risen did not have correct line of sight, but can pull me still. i take my ranger to a higher, tactical advantage to pick off risen, and they turn invulnerable/no line of sight/obstructed, then pull me down from my perch and proceed to own me.

the risen can turn tail and run with godly regen, but i cannot do the same off a bad pull/kite? not fun.

Orr is designed for groups, almost all assault and defend events will fail if the group is not large enough, with the exception of escort events which only need a small number of people (even 1 will do). Alot of people don’t do defend events, instead complaining when their favorate Temple/Dungeon is contested and not waiting around to help take it back. A small few will try to run the event chains that unlock the area, if they dont have the numbers they will fail.

Moral of the story, if you want uncontested areas, either help defend, or help with the events to take them back. Complaining about it aint going to make them uncontested any quicker.

Note also: uncontested areas that can be taken over by undead, will also show as contested while defend events are happening, this is why some people don’t bother with defend events, because they can’t just waypoint to the event.

Some skill points and vistas will require a distraction to get, unless you kill everything off (which may require a couple of people in some cases) but all way points you should be able to run around getting.

The hardest waypoint will be the Arah one. If you are unlucky, the undead will mob you as you run up the stairs while being pummeled by fish slinging catapults. And if its over-run by undead, you have the same fun getting back down since most of the time you will be “in combat” and unable to waypoint out.
