Just wondering if there was no “shiny” rewards for the achievement points and no reward chests with shinnies for different separate achievement bars from Living Story, would people actually hunt these points or would they just ignore the LS and continue their “own business”?

By the way, they should add a temporary playable skritt race for these events so it will make more sense seeing skritts chasing foes for getting their shinnies

The achievement list has always been like a goals list or perhaps a list of things to challenge myself with. Even before the shinies, I was working my way through them. The shinies are just a nice bonus now.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

a bit of both I presume. And there would still be a lot of people overly concerned with the way other people enjoy the game I guess.

I play for achievement points before the rewards came out, so it has not changed how I play.

I am no “lore-guru” who knows it all & the story of it all, but I certainly like to know “Why are we celebrating?” or “Why am I killing so many badies?” just to have a feel of what I’m doing so I do not mindlessly kill for no reason (I would get bored). Living Story is nice to have some reason to go out & check out the world, even if its just to visit balloon tower’s, never know what/who you’ll run into on the way.

I only started caring about achievement points after they start giving out shinnies for them. Most of them, especially the exploration ones, are like a chore to me (got 2000 hours on my main and still sitting at 80% map completion cause it’s so kittening boring) so I completely ignored them. Now I’m trying to get the skins so I will just grind my way through the achievements to get them. Once I get the skins I want I will surely go back to ignoriong them until another shinny that I like comes out.

Be careful what you wish for, Anet might just give it to you “HoT”
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”

Since the chests I’ve found that I notice how many APs I have (before the update I didn’t even knew), but hasn’t really changed the way I play, I keep doing the as many living world achievements as I’d need for the meta only if I’m interested in the reward or I notice I’m close to finishing them anyway (like it happened to the cuttroath politics one… just finished it because I noticed I just needed 1 more to go).

Rewards are nice, but, I already got most of the zenith weapons I wanted, the radiant skins I already got the one I wanted (the hellfire ones I don’t like), which is the gauntlet, since it only fits my guardian and the pauldrons look waaay to big on him, and the helm, my guardian already has the zephyrice wind one that fits with the gloves and I like how it looks better than the radiant one.

In general my aproach to APs is the same I use with the rest of the game… if I find it fun, I’ll do it, if I don’t, I’ll ignore it. For example, the exploration achievements, I enjoy exploring and going around, but I’m not doing it as a checklist, just if I see an empty piece of map, I’ll go there to see what’s in there, I’ll get it eventually but I won’t grind it, the fashion ones (getting all cultural skins in the game), I’ll just ignore, I’ll get any cultural skins only if I like it, not otherwise and so on.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
