So, let me get this straight: until now, due to being protected by the Dream from Elder Dragon corruption, the Sylvari have been used by the Pact more or less as cannon fodder – being trusted that they can’t be corrupted i.e. not die and rise right away to hack back at their former allies.

Now that it has finally been confirmed that the Pale Tree is a former champion of Mordremoth everybody’s ooh-ing and aah-in. The Pale Tree is like Glint, a former Dragon Champion who went rogue. The Pale Tree has gone even further, and protects her children from Dragon influence through the Dream – making it so that Dreamer Sylvari are STILL protected from Mordremoth’s influence. Not only that, but the Pale Tree has fought and protected all Tyrian leaders from the attack in the Grove – almost with the expense of her own life. The Sylvari did not turn around and say "oh gee, I’ll kick you out of my group because you can be corrupted by Zhaitan/Primordius/Kralkatorrik etc. No, they’ve been nice and gracious and helped wherever it was needed.

Instead of thanking Sylvari for what they have been doing, and be grateful for the help, and doing all they can to restore the Pale Tree – and maybe even find HOW she does the whole Dream thing so maybe the other races can create something similar and thus be protected from the corruption of the other dragons – as I said, instead of doing that, we are witnessing a whole Meta RP-zerg turning on Sylvari.

We’re witnessing a serious meta-RP event. I wonder if the devs anticipated that or not. And are we going to have an “alliance/horde” type of factions soon? Because this is where it seems to lead, honestly.

On a lighter note. Seriously, how many of these people who rant and rave against Sylvari do NOT have a Sylvari character?

I suspect the pact will support the sylvari and the pale tree, in recognition of how much the pale tree has done for Tyria, but there will be a potential civil war within the pact. Those who trust the sylvari, and those unwilling to risk being on the same side as potential dragon minions. Either that or we will find that the “nightmare” is the dragon’s influence, and Faolain will become the next Scarlet.

Also, as someone who really enjoys the sylvari lore and has multiple sylvari characters, I have not seen any ranting or raving about the sylvari, merely idle speculation as to the direction this twist may take the story in regards to the sylvari’s standing with the pact and tyria as a whole.

Only people I’ve seen on the forums hating on sylvari are very obvious trolls making a poor attempt at stirring up drama

Resident smug Englishman on the NA servers, just because.

I imagine that our Sylvari characters in-game won’t see much difference. Writing a completely different storyline for Sylvari characters is a lot of work, and is usually the province of single player RPGs. I imagine that our PCs are famous/trusted enough that the Biconics, Destiny’s Edge and the world leaders will continue to work with us.

From the teaser trailer, however, it seems that general society won’t quite feel the same. Anti-Sylvari sentiment may turn into riots and pogroms, as common people fear that any Sylvari, even those protected by the Dream, might turn into potential psychotic killers overnight. Racial leaders may need to enact programs to calm them down, which could result in systematic expulsion or oppression of Sylvari citizens in places that are not Sylvari territory.

Overall, it could be a very grim and thought-provoking climate (with a lot of parallels on the direction our own societies are taking) in which to set an expansion, which I’m actually quite interested to see. I do acknowledge that some players, particularly those who belong to minorities, may feel a bit uncomfortable by the direction though.

I am pretty sure the pale tree did nothing when the world leaders were attacked, it was all me and the world leaders themselves that fought back the enemies, the dragon at the end? Yeah I defeated him.

Well the problem here OP is that you’re assuming that perception is the same thing as objective fact. It is a fact that the Sylvari helped the Pact against Zhaitan, but perception is not a product of fact but of opinion. The average man on the street might have heard about how the Sylvari helped in the fight against Zhaitan, but they also heard about how a Sylvari (Scarlet) attacked Divinity’s Reach, Destroyed LA, how her forced wreaked havoc in Charr and Norn lands (during Flame and Frost). Maybe they even heard about how the zypherites were betrayed by Aerin. Not to mention the Nightmare Court. And undoubtedly the man on the street has heard about the damage that the Mordrem has done to Fort Salma, and in the Charr lands. Then hearing that the Sylvari are aslo Mordrem!?

Just because facts exist doesn’t mean that the man on the street will align his perception to those facts. Honestly in the real world people are still denying climate change!

My question. What about the Sylvari that turn and kill innocent lives? Should all Tyria sit down next to Sylvari and get killed when they inevitably turn? Should measures not be taken?

OP, gratefulness has nothing to do with it. Did you watch the cutscene at the end? The Sylvari that came anywhere near Mordremoth’s terrirory all turned on the others and wrecked the fleet. They attacked first.

There are still players who hate the Charr for taking back their homeland.

Reasoning leads nowhere; there is such a thing as a lost cause.
