Title says it all. I am sure it is safe(in terms of being ban) because it doesn’t give me any advantage, but I never heard anything about this from the Dev’s themselves.

You’re altering the game in order to use it. That’s a ban-worthy offense in it’s own right.

yes you can.i was using it when i had a faulty cpu (couldn’t afford a new back then) and couldn’t handle the game well so i was playing almost everything at low and the game looked beautiful.

agree with aidan tho (they said once that they don’t want mods that work in favor of you like something that will give you advantage against me or anyone else) so it’s up to you if you want to use it or not

Thousands of people use it every day. Myself included. Take that how you will. There’s a reason why it’s called post process injection though. It doesn’t modify the game in any way, only its graphical output after it had been rendered by the game.

By contrast, Texmod changes the output by going in and editing memory in real time. That’s not what Sweetfx does.

They have to say this, so they aren’t responsible for idiots downloading SweetFX or something similar from “NotavirusiPromiseXD.ru”.

I think it’s sad though that they cant take a couple dev hours away from making the next hit cash shop armor to vet a couple mods.

I think you misunderstand the content. A developer clarified in one of the other threads; it does not matter what you are using, if it gives some advantage, they will ban it. However, as SweetFX does not give an advantage, they probably won’t. But they reserve the right to do so at their own discretion, and can.

They are telling you that it is always a risk to use it, that it is not “okay”, but that they probably won’t act on it unless they have good reason to.

They can’t officially okay 3rd party mods because they can’t control the content or security of the software. If they were to okay something, they would have to host the download as well as verify the source code because no one else can be trusted. It’s simply not worth the effort and additional support hours for something that’s not their problem. It would also be an easy target for viruses, and considering the average user is technically challenged, it would cause a lot of problems.

They best they could do is unofficially support something by saying they use or like it. They did this for Gw2Spidy, even though it technically violates the rules.

yet every other mmo I have every played can? They dont have to officially endorse mods, just change the ToS to allow them, and open the game up a bit to facilitate mods (API). Again let users know that they are not responsible for anything that happens to them using mods, and that if they happen to use a mod that cheats they will be banned.

mods would make they game a lot better, and allow the community to pick up some places were this game could use improvement QoL/information wise. We don’t need idiotic levels of hand holding like we do now as far as mods are concerned.

Devs cannot and will not officially approve of a 3rd party mod. Devs will not test 3rd party mods to determine whether they are safe to use or not, or provide any sort of support if the game crashes due to you using a 3rd party mod.

However, SweetFX is not a 3rd party mod that affects GW2, it affects your graphics card directly. There is no way to detect that you are using SweetFX either, unless they can search the GW2 folder on your computer, but they cannot do that because that is an intrusion of your privacy.

Player advantage over others will always exist. You cannot remove this. My keyboard has 12 more buttons than yours that I can keybind, it is clearly an advantage for me. It is not an unfair one though, because I still have to press each button for each action I keybound. Nothing stops you from buying that keyboard either.
(Arenanet already stated 1 button = 1 action is fine)

If they ban people using Sweetfx they will ban about 1/5 of their costumers, anyone not playing above medium settings and most “non” high end AMD users..

so yeah, won’t happen..

what would be nice though is some optimization to lessen the load of CPU usage they dumped on the customers plate because their server couldn’t handle their game.
