Q:

Is this possible?

I put an expensive rune on my dungeon armor, and now I’ve decided I want to sell the rune, keep my armor and put a different type of rune on it. Can I salvage the rune without destroying my armor?

A:

you can put the new runeover top of the old one, but there is no way to remove the old one without destroying the armor. You have to sacrafice either the armor piece, or the rune. Sorry.

You used to be able to do this in GW1 with Perfect Salvage Kits, but it took them years to add it. I have a fairly high level of confidence that they’ll do this eventually for GW2, but I cannot imagine it being a high priority.

P.S. @ ANet: I’d pay gems for a Perfect Salvage Kit in GW2.

As far as I am aware, the only ways get a rune off of an item is to destroy the item with a salvage kit or to transmute it, transferring the rune from one to another, which also destroys the original item. If you want to save the original item, you can simply install a new rune (or other upgrade), but this destroys the rune. There simply is no way to retain both the item and the rune.
