THANK YOU!
For the new version of the salvage highlight. This is so much better than what we had before. And the toggle-able option for the glowing new items is perfect. The little QoL stuff like this is awesome.

Have to say, I found it extremely annoying.

However, thank you for pointing out the toggle off option. I should have checked really, now I can gladly turn this feature off!

Yeah took me a while to find the toggle off for the most annoying ‘highlight’ feature.

I do wish they would test these things and ask whether people feel the need for it before foisting it upon us….guess we should be thankful you can at least turn the super annoying highlighting off, although i had to ask for someone to tell me where the option was.

Salvaging highlighting is nice but the new item one obscures too much of the icon(for some items).

I don’t mind the idea of the new item highlight but as mentioned it’s much too strong. An option to tone it down or adjust the brightness/opacity would be nice. Some people may have an easier time seeing a less significant highlight than others.

I don’t like the new item highlighting, it gets on my nerves. But I’m okay with it because you can turn it off, and having options always is better than not having the option at all…

The salvage highlighting I can live with, but the new item highlighting is way too much. They’re both way too much really, but when I click on a salvage kit, I don’t need to be able to see the things that I can’t salvage. That’s the problem, I guess – both highlights obscure items, when only the salvage highlight should do that. The new item highlight would be much more useful at a lower intensity.(But thank you Anet for giving us the option to turn this off, until it can be fixed.)

it’s massive amount of work done there, and i really appreciate the effort, anet gw2 team.
but then, i would prefer there’s also an option for players to turn off the red highlighting thingy when you salvage items.
i find it too overwhelming for the eyes and it’s difficult to see. I rather the one before this update patch. really hope the team can add an option for it, like what you did for the “Show/Hide New Item Highlights”

thanks!

The red salvage highlighting over-rides the rarity highlighting so that makes it a hit or miss when trying to salvage the greens. I would love to have a sort by rarity (excluding invisible bags). Maybe instead of trying to make a color around the edge of the item, just change the entire hue of them with their rarity color or a color swatch in the corner of the item slot.

I turned off the new item highlighting and was disappointed that I can’t also turn off the red salvage thing. It’s annoying to highlight items that CANNOT be salvaged when salvaging. It’s unnecessary information and distracting.

Yeah, this was an unexpected qol improvement and one that made me SO happy almost immediately. I am surprised to see there are people that preferred the old system, but I found that one much more difficult to work with, I can identify everything I have that I want to salvage now in about 2 seconds, and it shocks me how much faster this makes dropping off loot. Superbly done.

I light the glowing new items, but they are way too glowy. Tone them down just a bit, a bit more subtle.

Ok when you open your inventory there’s a little cog in the top right hand corner. Click on that and the third (I believe) option down is “Hide New Item Highlighting” (or something to that effect). Selecting this will disable the new item highlighting thingy.

Thanks for that. Basically, what it comes down to is that GW2 scatters its options over three dialogues (at least – I’m not discounting the possibility that there are others I’ve forgotten or never spotted!), with no real clues that that’s the case. Not a real problem if you realise how things are, but frankly I cut my gaming teeth on a diet of many, many programs that were almost without exception rather better organised than that, and knew to keep options neatly together, where they’d be found – and two full years of playing too much GW2 hadn’t changed that prejudice. This was clearly a display option, so I was looking for it in the “display” choices – branching out to search the rest of the “Options” dialogue when I didn’t find it, and getting really confused when what I wanted wasn’t there. The possibility of other “options” dialogues didn’t even occur to me.

The inventory “options” dialogue is also a non-obvious place to find something like that – although it’s highly probably I’d have spotted it there eventually – because it’s now a mixture of inventory actions that people are likely to use regularly, such as depositing materials, and “one-off” options of this sort, that most people are likely to set once and then leave alone. And the latter, wherever they’re put, ought to be flagged as such by being controlled with check-boxes – not simple, selectable menu text.

In all honesty, it’s a bit of a design mess.

(For the sake of giving it a fair and unbiased trial, I’m going to leave the “new items” glow on for now, and see how I get on. Frankly, I expect to turn it off, because (a) I don’t normally micro-manage my inventory on a minute-by-minute basis, so I’m expecting that I’ll regularly be opening it to find two-thirds of my screen glowing, and (b) the glow – on my screen, at least – makes it rather hard to see what the individual, new items actually are – which is likely to be a bigger nuisance than not knowing what’s new and what’s not, and almost certainly wholly defeats its usefulness. But, like I said, I’ll give it a trial.

I myself find both effects rather annoying, with the new item highlight being definitely the worse. The shine and saturation of the color change is imho too strong, but I’m a “little color and shininess” sensitive, so others might not feel the same way.

The salvage highlight would have been much more pleasant, if the change was not into the redest of reds but rather into grayscale. I would say both red and greyed out means “disabled” in common design, and I think if the purpose is to not show you the things you can not salvage, then why making them all glow red instead of making them less obvious?

New items highlight – awful. In the current version it is “you have smth new, but you won’t see what it is, ha-ha”. Make it less bright and add fadeout – many people will consider switching it back on. If they ever come to know you’ve changed it. Sometimes it is better to do things right from the first attempt.

I really want to like the new item highlight but there is just something slightly off about it.

I think it is mainly the fact that I seem to have no way to tell the game “yes I’ll seen these now stop highlighting them”. Using a new consumable will make it not new anymore but that is impractical. Right clicking might also turn off the newness but that is also annoying.

Both features/qol changes are nice, but I have to agree, that it needs to be toned down just a bit. The white on new stuff obscures it a little too much, as does the red with the salvage (that less so, since it lets you know it can’t be).

I really like the new salvage highlighting option, but I can’t distinguish the rarity of the items on the fly. It would be better if when using salvage kit all items lighted up with hue related to their rarity. Also the new items highlight is great but the effect is too strong.

I would like the highlighting more if just the outline of the square glowed. Making the entire square glow makes the icon hard to see. For new items I can sometimes hardly tell what they are. For scavenging I can’t tell the rarity as Daala says.

I really like the idea of having the highlight be the same color as the rarity. But I would still prefer the highlight be only the square outline, not filled-in.

For people who can’t find the option to turn off the hilighting of new items, in your inventory, click on the option gears in the top corner of your inventory window, and you should find the option there.

I like all the highlighting except the ‘new’, I turned that off. I like the color outlines (which, may have been there before, and I just never knew about it?) and the salvage is great.

Instead of a glow, they should have gone with a small, glowy plus sign in one of the corners so it doesn’t disrupt the other colors.

That’s odd, the red highlights don’t bleed past the non-salvageable icons for me, perhaps it has something to do with your resolution and/or video settings? I’d suggest submitting a UI bug with a screenshot attached.

My husband and I both appreciate the new highlighting for salvaging. It makes it easier to quickly find (in a full and cluttered inventory) what is salvageable a little bit more quickly. I know, maybe not everyone has that issue, but it definitely helped me clear my inventory faster last night.

The ‘new’ item highlighting is also appreciated (by me); however, I think it’s brightness needs to be toned down just a tad. This way the icon can still clearly be seen. My husband, on the other hand, hates it completely. lol

I would also suggest that all highlighting be removed when you choose “Compact”. At the moment it removes highlighting only from items which had their position changed.
