Should I use a Fine or a Crude salvage kit to salvage fines/masterworks? Is there a notable difference? What does 20% for rarer materials mean? A % chance of mats of a higher tier?

I ask this because I run a ton of dungeons and I always salvage the fine/masterwork drops but I want to be getting the most out of them.

Thanks : )

Yes, rare mats means higher tier. For instance, an L80 cloth piece normally yields Silk, but on the rare chance occurring will yield Gossamer.

I use a Basic kit for blue/green salvage. I don’t find that the extra 5% chance matters enough in the long run, especially with cloth items, as Silk is worth a lot more than Gossamer and the T6 leather is worth 6c more than the merchant sale price of T5 Leather.. Also, at 88c v. 2s88c, I’d have to get an awful lot of Ori to make up the difference. Ommv.

I just use Basic. It’s slightly more copper than the Crude kit yet it has chances of obtaining higher tier ingredients (orichalcum from mithril stuff, ancient wood from elder stuff, etc)
88c isn’t very much either, so you can’t really go wrong. I guess you can use Fine or whatever else if you want to spend the silver and however much else it is per kit.

Use the higher tiered ones if you want to get the upgrade out. Otherwise just use basic. Crude kits seem to give out less of the normal mats (unless that was a bug that got fixed when I was srsly doing tons of salvaging to get my MF up).

It’s rather unusual when fine kits are the proper ones to use, but I have used them in the past… it’s almost always basic/master/black lion.
