As of recently, probably around a few days ago, I started to get some really bad salvaging results. I know there is no DR associated with salvaging as said by ANet employee but out of all the 15-20 rares I’ve been salvaging with Master Salvage Kits, around 1/3 to 1/2 of them gave me 0 ectos. Mind you, these rares are either lvl 80 or high 70s. If anyone else has noticed this, please post. Did they lower the drop rate on ectos so people feel like Black Lion Salvage Kits are more profitable? Because they aren’t. Black Lion Salvage Kits are 5g 50s each at the time I’ve made this post. Ridiculous conversion prices. 25 uses. Each high level rare sells for 35-40s already so to make any profit at all or even stay neutral, you need to get at least 1 ecto (38s at the time of posting) and a rune / sigil from the salvage. Let’s say I need to make back the money I spent on Black Lion Salvage if I was going to buy one. That means I would need to make back 5g 50s + 25 × 35s (min rare selling price) which is a total of 14g 25s to break even. 14g 25s divided by 38s gives 37.5 or 38 which means that you need to get a minimum of 38 ectos from Black Lion Salvage to break even. That is a 1.52 ecto per rare minimum to break even. I have used around 5 stacks of Black Lion Salvage that I received from the chests. I myself did not notice a huge difference between BLS and the next best until now. Either ANet is subtlety saying that we should only salvage exotics which is ridiculous because exotics drop like once every 15 dungeons for me or that they are inherently liars because they said that they would not provide services that would overly cause people to think that this game is pay-to-win. Either way, ectos were hard to come by before and now, it is just ridiculous. This is coming from a guy who plays 5-6 hours avg a day and gets 4-8 rares a day and maybe 1 exotic per week from drops and chests.

I did thought it was curious when prices on T5 dropped but ecto prices did not. Now I know why.

As someone who regularly crafts rares to salvage for ectos, I haven’t noticed any difference at all.

.8 to .9 ectos per rare, depending on RNG.

Not that 80-90% of the time I get an ecto. I don’t. But after figuring in the times I get 2 or 3 ectos from a salvage, .8 to .9 is it.

Sorry, but RNG is RNG. I salvage a lot and have noticed no differences. Sometimes I am luckier than other times, but the status quo appears to be succinctly maintained.

I’ve been pretty luck since the patch… luckier than I was before the patch. I was beginning to feel like Anet was punishing me for something, since guildies were doing just fine. Since the patch, I’ve been getting ectos quite regularly.

I read somewhere that after a patch the DR (diminished returns) re-sets. So you will get more of everything untill that DR# builds up again.
