There are other items which are “Rare Salvage Items” but they’re dropped by Aetherblades / Molten Alliance / Watchworks. And a set of items Mawdrey can give up.
As for armor/weapons – they generally salvage into the type of metal used to make them for the level range they exist in.
Thats a great list I can add that to my spreadsheet. Here are some numbers for light armors. Can anyone correct these numbers if they are wrong. I cant figure out the mid level percentage split. Also if the levels are perfectly accurate. Is gossamer only 76-80 and whats the % split? Also and almost important, what is the number of mats on average on chest pieces, pants, ect…
Light Armor:
Wool 21-30
Wool/Cotton 50%? 31-33
Cotton 34-45
Cotton/Linen 50%? 46-50
Linen 51-60
Linen/Silk 61-63
Silk 64-76
Silk/Gossamer 92%|8%? 876-80
Don’t forget light armor also does Jute at very low levels.
Yes but what levels, haven’t figured that one out…. wondering if my numbers are right
From https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/bltc/Mystic-s-Gold-Profiting-Guide/first#post4340574
- Also helps to know level ranges:
green wood 1-20, soft wood 16-33, seasoned wood 31-48, hard wood 46-63, elder wood 64-80
copper ore 1-23, iron ore 19-55, platinum ore 49-62, mithril ore 63-80
rawhide leather 1-18, thin leather 16-33, coarse leather 31-48, rugged leather 46-63, thick leather 61-80
jute scrap 1-18, wool scrap 16-33, cotton scrap 31-50, linen scrap 46-63, silk scrap 61-80
but those numbers are not fully true… there is overlap, one of my big questions is what is the percentage of each mat at those overlaps
but those numbers are not fully true… there is overlap, one of my big questions is what is the percentage of each mat at those overlaps
Those numbers most certainly are true.
The overlaps happen because there are for example level 20 weapons that are crafted from t1 wood/ore but the lowest t2 weapon drops start at lvl 16.
So the salvaged mat is not entirely dependant on the level of the gear but rather what was used to craft it or in case of drops, which name they have.
The ratio of salvaging a higher tier material also depends on the salvage kit you use, so there arent any definite ratios.
It also seems that each salvageable item has an internal ratio of salvaging into a higher tier mat to which the chance of the salvage kit gets applied. That is easily checked by using a crude kit, which states that it has a 0% chance of salvaging a rarer mat but gives you a higher tier mat on the 10th try on average.

Ok I understand that depending on the salvage kit you have a % chance of getting a better mat no matter the level. My question is involved in the overlap. When 2 tiers overlap what is the percentage ignoring the salvage kit %… is it 50/50?

If tiers overlap, it depends on the item, which tier mat you will get.
Example:
You can use Bronze Plated Inscriptions to craft lvl 20 green weapons.
Those will savage into copper mostly with a rare chance to get iron ore.
The Mighty Iron Dagger, is a lvl 16 blue weapon from drops, which will salvage into iron ore.

I guess you completely ingored my last post.
IT DEPENDS ON THE ITEM YOU SALVAGE
Example:
Click this link:

It will show you all tradeable daggers between level 49 and 55.
You will notice that some daggers have the word IRON or STEEL in their names.
Those will salvage into IRON ORE
Some of the Daggers have the word DARKSTEEL in their names.
Those will salvage into PLATINUM ORE

The %s fluctuate depending on which kind of kit you use. I have not recorded a big enough sample to even begin to tell you what the division is.

I just salvaged the same level 49 heavy armor 200 times with a Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic. With what you are saying I should consistently get either Iron or Platinum with a 10% rarer mat chance, however I got 70% iron 30% platinum.
To me that means you have a 80% chance of iron and a 20% chance at platinum without including the salvage kit bonus.

Information required – what pieces of armor did you salvage? Because for 200 times, it’s not the “same” item because that’s a little silly. Also a little silly to think of you having 200 items all the exact same one . . .
I’d like to start keeping a record myself, but I sort of refuse to do that much legwork out of the game when others do it more reliably for me. I just salvage it, accept my materials, and move on to the next piece of junk I’m not selling.

I am left speechless and congratulate you for your research.

I think there is drop research from salvaging ongoing on the wiki too, come to think of it. Haven’t looked into it.

How is salvaging the same items 200 times not “the same item”… I straight up said “I just salvaged the same level 49 heavy armor 200 times”. I salvaged the Ravaging Worn Scale Coat level 49. It was the same item all 200 times.
I have done this with multiple crossover tier items and my results prove its not dependent on the item, however predetermined chance of either getting one mat or the other.

Well, see, you salvage a Ravaging Worn Scale Coat (Level 49). And now it’s gone. You can’t salvage it again, you just did. You are salvaging another one
