Somehow I stuck in an Asian server for extended NPE missions.

Let me tell you the Chinese version is really different and their player population is really messing up the global trading post.

Also the servers need upgraded. Many areas have N64 era fog. I’m told it’s a special weather effect, but I think it just cuts down on render distance.

I had a traumatic experience in the game Outside today.

Happily, I had learned here on the forums, that there is indeed an upgrade option available for my wardrobe birthday suit. After confirming that my wardrobe’s birthday suit was, in fact, due for an update. I decided to act upon it immediately, and purchase the available upgrade as others had.

I logged into Outside, and used the available in game search for “The Jim” content that I read about here. I was referred to a book called “The White Pages”, where I was able to find some more information on the content called “The Jim”.

I carefully plotted the information onto my mini-map, and used my new in game mount to make my way to “The Jim” content, carefully avoiding aggro’ of angry MOBs and their pets along the way.

When I arrived there, I knew I was in the right place, as the PC that greeted me had an important looking tag, that said; “Jim” on it.

I immediately showed the PC my somewhat defective birthday suit, and I offered the character a substantial amount of gold for an immediate upgrade to my birthday suit, and inquired about the possibility of adding boons and buffing my outfit.

The PC immediately produced powerful weapons, and pummeled me into a downed state. Apparently wardrobe items have no armor qualities, and you cannot carry weapons with them while in use. ( I suspected that he was a dev at this point, as I was not even aware the weapons he produced were ones that even existed in the Outside game,). At this point, I was immediately able to confirm that there are in fact too many stacks of bleeding available in the game Outside, and this truly needs to be nerfed.

I quickly selected my downed state skills; “Plea-bargain” and “Claim Ignorance”, to buy myself some time, and get the situation under control. I hastily explained to him that I had recently read on the forums that I could purchase upgrades to my wardrobe birthday suit from “The Jim” using gold.

To that, he called me a “Stupid NOOB”, he threatened me with perma-death, and promised account deletion, if I didn’t leave his map immediately! (This confirmed to me that he must be a dev.) Then he said, that "The GYM’ was an instanced content, only available in my personal story line. And, that the wardrobe birthday suit options should not be used in open world content.

He then explained to me, that the only way to get to “The GYM” content was to press Alt + F4, and unplug my in game computer. He also gave me the in game code "ID10T, to use freely, and he unexpectedly left me to recover using my remaining downed skills; “Broken pride” and “Humility”.

So, I’ve spent the rest of my day pressing Alt + F4, and unplugging my in game computer repeatedly, only to find out “The GYM” content in Outside is bugged! Or, my F4 key is broken. (Still troubleshooting).

The ID10T code he gave me, seems to have no powers. It even seems to cause me to get dropped from the party whenever I enter it.

So, I have decided that I am not playing the game Outside anymore, until I understand the content better. I have also learned that I should read all forum content more carefully, as the instructions and warnings therein, are usually pretty accurate. And, spelling inaccuracies are not always inaccurate.

One of my bigger complaints about Outside is the fact that 90% of the gear you get (possibly more, still not sure about it) is purely cosmetic. There seem to be no way to increase your stats with equipment, the only thing you get with armor pieces is a varying degree of cold resistance, which is useful only during the “winter” seasonal event and when particular weather conditions trigger on the zone you’re playing in (like “wind” or “rain”).
I heard something about special pieces of gear, namely “suits” and “ties”, which supposedly should increase your “power” stat, or at least should be connected to it somehow, but I have yet to test it.

Anyway, the fact that your gear doesn’t give relevant stats bonus for me makes farming for it rather pointless and uninteresting, and I believe the Devs here made another mistake just for the sake of being original and different from other MMOs.

The outside is quite a scary game. Theres this thing called ‘’The Sun’’ It’s a terrible boss that gives me freckles ;(

I have a bottle of +10 Sun resistance with me whenever i play that game. But i barely play it cause theres a lot of scary stuff lurking out in that game.

10/10 would recommend NOT playing Outside

I heard something about special pieces of gear, namely “suits” and “ties”, which supposedly should increase your “power” stat, or at least should be connected to it somehow, but I have yet to test it.

In an earlier version of Outside, some of the outfits incorrectly stated that they boosted Power, but they actually boost the less-used Charisma stat instead. Despite the correction of the typo, certain items like the “Power Suit” and “Power Tie” were not renamed, further adding to the confusion. In addition, these items seem to be bugged – characters with a low charisma attribute don’t seem to gain the expected stat boost when wearing them.

Some of Outside’s power-named items do boost power in certain ways. For example, there are an assortment of power tools that seem to be stronger than the generic versions. Even if your character hasn’t leveled up the Carpentry, Mechanics or similar traits, I highly recommend getting the power drill and power screwdriver for easier completion of those special upgrade and maintenance quests that periodically become available in your home instance.

However, there are other power-items that are rather baffling. For example, if you try to buy a Powerball, you’ll likely find it is a big waste of money. Despite the games claims that you might get lucky and earn millions of gold, you’ll probably find it’s a terrible gold sink. The RNG is absolutely horrible, and the payback is significantly worse than throwing items into the Mystic Forge – at least there you get something back each time. It also seems misnamed since all you get is piece of paper with some numbers, and it isn’t even round.

Personal Observations of the Outside Game

Best Graphics EVER – I have compared Outside with numerous other games, all of which pale in comparison. Outside is just so realistic. I have come across NO clipping issues, the skins are flawless and the color palate is off the scale. I must admit though on the downside, as I continue to level up, it seems that the graphics engine has become a bit outdated. I have noticed some blurring of items when zoomed into first person mode, forcing small printed items to be held at arm’s length. Fortunately the local merchant sells glasses which grant +1.5 vision buff.

The Maps Are Huge – I have opened about 66% of my starter map and I must say I have barely scratched the surface. The maps are so detailed and loaded with Easter eggs that you could explore your starter map all the way to max level and still have plenty left to see. I normally play in the NA region which has such a variance in map design to boggle the mind but I have also spent quite a bit of time in the EU and Oceanic region, both of which offer their own unique exploration opportunities which I would recommend to all players who have the availability of time and currency.

Resource Nodes Are Almost Non-existant – In all the time I have been playing, I have never found an Mining Node on any map. Though there are numerous Logging nodes available, you must be very careful on where you try to harvest since logging on a map area already claimed by another player can lead to Open World PvE Dueling which can quickly result in a downed state or worse yet a permanent defeated state requiring a complete reroll of character. Harvesting can be done freely if your Home Instance has sufficient room to do so.

Home Instance Is NOT Free – Unlike other games which grant you a free home instance, The Outside Game actually charges you. We are not talking a couple silver nuisance cost here, these darned things cost more than a Legendary in most other games. Oh and it doesn’t stop there. After you purchase your home instance there are subscription fees required monthly to continue ownership of said instance. Failure to pay such fees results in a shutting down of QoL functions. Talk about a gold sink.

Gold Sinks Are Everywhere – There are so many gold sinks built into the game that it is very difficult to level up without undue hardship. Now granted once I committed to procuring a lifelong gaming partner numerous years ago, leveling up has become much more enjoyable experience and the gold sinks have become easier to bare.

RNG System Is Broken – I have been playing the RNG MegaMillion lottery for many years now and have realized it is completely broken. Most of the time it completely consumes my investment and returns nothing. Occasionally I receive a free token to play again but that is just a pipe dream, see results noted above. There was one time when I received 8sp for playing but once it was split with the rest of my party, the reward didn’t even cover my initial investment.

GM’s Are Not Listening – In all the time I have been playing, I have NEVER seen a GM in the game. There is no communication between the players and the GMs. Oh sure there are certain TV evangulists who “claim” they have personal communication with the Devs but these individuals tend to pan out as braggarts and charlatans. It is like the GMs just made the game and moved on. No matter how much I hope and pray for changes in the way the game is progressing, my suggestions seem to fall on deaf ears. Do the GM’s even play their own game I wonder?

Definitely, Pay To Win – Outside is definitely a Pay to Win game. It doesn’t matter how much experience you have, it all comes down to the all mighty gold piece. I bought some pretty good stuff. Got me a 300gp pair of wool Wintersday socks. Got a Tengu-feather lined sink. A mana-powered Minipet polisher. A ley-line infused Quaggan sweater. But, of course, I bought some dumb stuff, too. If you are able to decipher the intricate game mechanics and accumulate a modest amount of gold, the game rewards you with much better QoL enjoyment.

For the first time in a while I actually got to spend some time in my home instance instead of just going there to remove the tired and hungry debuffs like I normally do. I wasn’t actually planning on it but I didn’t need to grind gold today and everywhere else seems to be stuck on a rain effect (apparently this is a common problem on UK maps, not that the devs seem inclined to fix it). Unlike in sensible games spending time in areas with this environmental effect gives you a bunch of debuffs, I hear it can even damage some of your equipment if you’re not careful.

So anyway, going anywhere else wasn’t worth the hassle and I ended up just checking out my home instance instead. I forgot how much there was to do. There’s a whole bunch of activities that can improve how it looks and even how some things work (although my husband who shares the instance says a lot of them are just a pointless grind and don’t actually achieve anything, I think he just doesn’t care about the cosmetic effects as much as I do). But there’s also loads of mini games which are pretty cool. Some of them are actually more addicting than the main game.

By the way does anyone know if there’s a manual for this game? I’ve tried looking online and I found a few books that claim they’re the manual but they all seem pretty out of date and some of the things they say are a bit strange. I did find a Wiki which has tons of articles but it seems to be mainly lore and very little on how to actually get things done.

I wan’t them to fix these timed events!
To get Gold I need to “work” but today (Now) I just missed the timed events called the bus… So I have to wait another hour until the event starts again so I can go to work, I lose alot of grinding time and alot of gold on this and devs has to pay for it, I want a refund.

The bad news: on March 10 I went outside, straight to my dental appointment and had a tooth removed.

The good news: I stopped on the way home and bought a 12 pack of Pepsi and a bottle of Captain Morgan’s.

So there’s ups and downs to going outside. I’m feeling up right now.

There’s something charming about rangers.

I learned the hard way that trolls in this game don’t just live under bridges. They do seem to thrive on this place called the internet.

They have camouflage or stealth because it is sometimes hard to tell it is a troll at first glance. Usually the best trolls come off as friendly or just confused, it isn’t till much later that you realize you have been had.

Unless you’re one of those die hard PvEers, there’s always ways to make a little gold when it’s you and some PvE person sitting there waiting for the bus.

Remember, ganking and looting to pass the time on slow days will put gold in your pocket and a smile on your face. And the chars you gank don’t mind. They’re moved to the endgame server where RNG is always with them and they get to fly without training a mastery or paying for an expansion so they’re happy to go there.

Just don’t let The Police catch you. They’re real spoilsports about this.
