Save/Load builds
This has been brought up a couple of times and yes..it would be very convenient
Yeah I agree with the idea, for the nth time.
This way I won’t have to try to memorise (and forget) the builds that I have for different things, or I’d be able to save that <profession> build from <person> that I’ve been wanting to try out for <period of time>. Builds that I’ve been wanting to experiment with, or builds that I’ve wanted to try out I often forget about.
So long Treeface.

Anet development has never listened to the community, if it comes (which it wont) would make this game loads more playable and less of a hassle to switch between speedclearing/fractals/wvw (at least we have spvp that saves itself) but any builds in spvp you want to use differently you have to start from the bottom.
Just be surprised if it ever comes.
If they do bring us this feature, it needs to be the complete package.
Changing build imo needs to change: Traits, skills and armor-/weapon-/jewelset for it not to be a hassle.

Agreed. In Tera there’s a system where you can switch between glyph sets (ie trait sets) with two clicks. In eso there’s a mod (I can’t remember off the top of my head, but it’s by Wykkyd) that lets you save the armor+weapons+trinkets you have on as a set (and it can save multiple sets), then lets you swap back to them whenever you want.
These systems would have been great to have in place before I decided it was too much of a hassle to have two sets of gear and two different builds for my ele.

iirc, way before launch, there was a blog post by ANet saying they weren’t going to have a build saver as they wanted people to be attached to their builds, for their builds to be a meaningful part of their character.
I remember it because I was playing Guild Wars 1 at the time and I thought that was a strange thing to want. I had numerous builds saved in that game and while I didn’t switch daily, the build saver was extremely useful. I couldn’t see how it wouldn’t be something to have in this game, but they wanted us to have, it sounded like, an emotional attachment to our builds, or something. /shrug.
So that seems to be the reason why they didn’t put build savers in the game at launch.
ANet may give it to you.

If they really did not create the save/load feature on purpose because of the reasons you stated…….
I would be the first one to call them a i.dio.t.
If they want me to get attached to a build, they better let me have full customization, I need to be able to change around all skill slots like gw1, I need to able to inpute voice for every skill I use, etc.
I’d settle for just trait switching if items / skills are causing trouble for whatever reason. Trait switching shouldn’t be hard to implement
It is absolutely incomprehensible why this feature wasn’t in the game since the start. They’ve already worked on this stuff in GW1 and it obviously worked in GW1. Seems like they had to rediscover many things when GW2 came out.
I personally don’t understand this. The great players are already changing their bulds in dungeons every single time it can help them a bit. Unfortunatelly, it is quite hard for the casual player. They (me included) just don’t remember all the trait combinations for different fights because they simply don’t play that much….not being able to save various builds just forces people to play sub par builds imo. Or you just don’t want to slow down your team when you are fiddling with your traits and weapons….it can take couple of minutes because you don’t have it down to muscle memory yet…at that point I feel like it is better not to change anything since it might be faster just to kill the boss with my non-optimal build.
They said that templates are on their list of to do things, but from what they say it also seems that it is not high priority thing to do, which sucks because this would be a huge quality of life improvement. We won’t see anything like that until after HoT comes out…we’ll probably have to wait a bit after that too.
We all want this feature to come back. It’s extremely odd that we haven’t had it return yet.

Which seems a contradiction, since they allow free ability to switch, modify, and redo your build at any time with no consequences or restrictions. Having a system that is purposely inconvenient simply to be a deterrent, is poor game design.

The ability to change your build freely was added much later. Initially you had to talk to retrain NPCs and pay a small price to change your traits. So what the blog post mentioned was exactly how Anet thought the traits system was going to work in the game. Later, they added trait reset cannisters gem store items to change your trait anytime you want by using one. But in the end they made the current system, allowing players to retrait any time they want without cost.
Then came the major trait change, before the trait change every player had access to all major traits, but now you need to unlock them, meaning any save / load system would have to account for that too.
It’s a rather complicated issue. Maybe the save / load at least for traits will come after they change the traits again with HoT
This is actually something even Obama himself would want added to the game. Pretty sure he’d say yes if we asked him.
+1 for save/load.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
+1 vote for Gear/Trait preset.
When I first started playing the game. I would like to play around with the trait system. It happened to me a few times that I want to switch build between fights. But assigning traits are quite slow and some times I cannot remember the trait nunber and have to read the text. Somehow I am in combat and I have to fight with some trait slots empty.
After a few times, I gave up and find a all-around build and stick to it forever.
So, the current design really “attach” my character to my build, but in a bad and unpleasant way. :-(
For me, one problem with the lack of a Guild Wars 1 like template for builds is that it causes a “yeah, whatever. What I’ve got is good enough.” attitude toward traits. I’ve got 8 professions and different weapons I switch between and there is no way I’m going to remember the details about builds that are best for particular weapons or places on each.
If I switch to a different weapon set for variety, without a template I’m not going to update my traits. Going into water with a set up for land. /shrug. What I’ve got is good enough. Doing a series of dungeons with a group of people. Well, I’m not going to ask the others to wait while I try to remember which traits would be best for this dungeon or that dungeon on the char that I’m playing that day. What I have is good enough.
The lack of templates actually discourages thinking about traits in a lot of people, imo, once they’ve gotten one set up. Why bother to look for another build when it’s good enough and there isn’t a way to easily switch to another. The other, at best, is written down somewhere inconvenient.
ANet may give it to you.

If nothing else, this is a necessity now that they are adding a third game mode to PvP. We need to be able to swap builds quickly based on which mode the spinner chooses.
This has been brought up a lot of times, and I think ANET just doesn’t know how.
BUT I DO
Step 1:
Add to bank “build equipment spaces”. This would include Helm-Foot Armor spaces, trinket, weapons, etc. Label 1, 2, 3…
Step 2:
Include a new “build window”. This would include a “pvp build style window” to add traits, utilities, etc. Also, include which “build equipment”, from bank, you would like to load from (1, 2, 3…). Label these A, B, C…
Step 3:
From “build window”, select “load build”.
This pulls traits etc from “build window”, and withdraws and equips equipment from corresponding “build equipment space” in bank.
ANET could give everyone 2 “build equipment spaces” and sell each extra for 1000gems (4, 5, 6…). This purchase would include additional space in"build window (D, E, F…)
Profit
