Saw something new
NPCs don’t always seem to conform to the same rules that player’s have to. Trehearne is a necro, but uses a greatsword for example.
Doesn’t mean we won’t have those capabilities later on (devs have mentioned giving classes more options of exiting weapons, but no eta).
Just like Lanfear said, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. There are instances like this all over GW2.
Who knows, maybe even one day we can pick two classes, like GW1
I vote for something to be hinted at later. I am thinking that maybe not weapons, but the devs have hinted at skill updates, so I would imagine that maybe new weapons may not be too far off (relatively speaking.)

Is Guild Wars 1 gonna stay open or will it be closing soon ? I might check it out because I’ve never played it.

There has been nothing hinting or implying that the servers will be closing any time in the near future.

In fact I would say the opposite. Just last week I decided to instal and log on. I couldn’t remember my name/password so I emailed support. They got back to me within a day, had a back and forth conversation, and reset my password.
So, the support is still very much there. (It’s possible it’s the same support, so not sure)

I’m gonna check it out then since I’m such a big fan of guild wars 2. How are the graphics and gameplay on guild wars 1 ? Do they have a monthly sub and if so what are the limitations for the free to play people assuming it’s free to play.

GW1 is a B2P just like GW2. No sub fees, although they do have a small cash shop (offers things like mercenaries, costumes, bank tabs, etc).
It is a drastically different animal than GW2. It does not have a z-axis for example. So approach it with a very open mind. If you are expecting ‘typical mmo’ you will not like it.
Its graphics are good, where great for their time period. I still think it’s lovely, but it is sort of dated.

I would agree with this. They do seem to be doing as much as they can to sustain it for as long as they can. Which is great, because I still enjoy playing.
How are the graphics and gameplay on guild wars 1 ?
GW1’s graphics depend on the campaign you’re playing. Prophecies (the oldest one) is very dated, while Nightfall and Eye of the North are quite detailed.
Gameplay wise it’s nothing like GW2. A bit better IMO, but many would disagree.

In that case it’s the sword that’s the exception, not the NPC. Caladbolg can also be wielded by players of any profession.
But you’re right that NPCs follow different rules. Just like there were NPC engineers in GW1, and there are still NPC monks who specialise in healing. Or casters who can create far more elaborate and powerful spells, but take much longer to do it.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
The day i can be a guard/warrior my life will be complete. Or a Gaurd/thief or a Thief/Mes
Or a Ranger/Necro (My main in Gw1)

Guardian/Ele. Give me ALL the clerics!

The most prominent example of an NPC who breaks the rules without using a bundle like Caladbolg is Rytlock, who uses sword/pistol while wearing heavy armor. A number of other NPCs can use skills from one weapon set while wielding another, as well – Priory mages such as Sieran use Frost Aura while wielding a staff, Zojja uses Lightning Whip while wielding what appears to be a scepter, and there’s likely a lot more besides those.
Makes you wonder if those skills and weapons were originally what classes had available, or if ANet gave them those skills purely for appearances.

Touch ranger too good! Love it! And while I hated GW1 overall, the friends I made on it are unforgettable

Haha, thanks for proving my point (in another unrelated thread) about F2P and subscriptions scaring off customers!
GW1 works like GW2, you buy the game. Done.
GW1 was set to auto pilot a few months ago, so I would expect servers to be open for a very long time. It’s a beautiful game that has some of the most entrancing lore that I’ve ever experienced. It plays more like a card game (MTG) than an MMO in terms of build crafting and the mechanics are simple but elegant.
Have fun
