I just got scammed. I was dumb, i know. He offered an item for 150 gold before and 150 gold after, and after i sent the 150, instant blocked. The link is the conversation i had with him on my alternate account. Is there anything i can do?

This is what happens when you don’t use the TP. You get scammed. If you contact support they may get punishment, but you will not get any refunds.

Also you may want to delete that link from your post, naming and shaming is against forum rules.

Edited to remove the picture. So if this is true, i can just go and scam people with little repercussions? that doesn’t sound right to me.

Scammers do get repercussions, yes, but you won’t get refunded.

That just seems unfair. Surely if they punish the scammer, they know that someone was hurt from what they did. So should they not repay the person/people who got scammed?

That would very quickly destabilized the economy.

There are systems in place to stop scamming. Use them.

because they implemented the trade post and no person to person trade system. Anything that you send is done at your own risk. If it was trade post malfunctioning then they would refund you.

How can ppl still be so stupid? Has the Fb generatin of babys “grown up” this much that they can now play games like Gw2?

Like allways you don’t learn s… from success but only from mistakes.
Learned to never trust any one at online games when i was playing Rune Scape at age 10.

Agreed. Report it through support. You might get a sympathetic moderator. But, yes, please use the trading post from now on. This prevents you from being preyed on by scum.

Padadox: So sorry this happened to you. It is actually very good you wrote the post, someone else may learn from this instead of having to get hurt by a scammer.

They will ban the Scammer, but not return anything lost. That is the rule. As someone else said it is to prevent this that the TP was created.

Please, don’t let this bring you down. Most people are not as rotten. It is still better not to trust people with your gold/valuables unless you really, really know them.

Anet should do nothing. You HAVE an official method to handle all transactions. You know that. You went around their rules and got what you had coming.

It is like a drug dealer getting ripped off by someone coming to buy his drugs and going to the cops to file a complaint..

you learned your lesson (we hope), and move on.

It’s crappy to learn lessons that way. I feel for you. But definitely report the person who did this. They deserve to be banned.

Contact support, but don’t set your expectations high. The Trading Post is deliberately designed exactly for this very thing, a long with shaving off gold to reduce inflation.

I have absolutely 0 sympathy for you. You tried to scam with the pathetic attempt to avoid TP taxes and now you’re crying about being scammed.

If it was my responsibility to solve such situations the one and only answer from support would be “You gave your gold by your own free will. There’s no proof of your account being hacked. Next time use TP as this is the only safe trading feature we take responsibility for”.

Except that games with face to face trading is still plagued by scamming.

GW1 had face to face trading, and yet there were more or less daily posts on the community forums about people being scammed.

You were dumb and greedy.

Arenanet will punish the scammer for violating the rules.

But why should they repay you for a loss that you suffered because you tried to avoid the trading system they want you to use?

You deserve your loss, be happy the scammer will get punished and use the TP next time.

Do people really need to rub the OP’s face in this? Isn’t it enough that he’s out that money? Is there reason to add insult to injury?

Sometimes I wonder about this community.

OP needs to understand that he was punished for being greedy.

Making fun of him means he is more likely to get the message and avoid making this mistake again.

Most people wont learn and make this mistake over and over again, this is the only way of teaching them not to.

There is a trading feature.

Where can I trade an item for an item?
It should be called “auction house” and not “trading post”

Edit: well maybe not “auction house” since bids don’t work that way, but it surely ain’t no “trading post” either.
If I loot a precursor and I want to trade it, I shouldn’t have to be burned by tp fees.

Yes, and I consider the trade function the best of what is available compared to other games.

The reason these scams exists is that the trading post takes a percentage of the sale. When the item is valuable that is a stupid amount. Many people who find a pre can’t afford to sell it! How stupid is that?

So, all it needs to fix is for Anet to cap the listing fees so genuine people won’t be forced into taking risks with email trade.

I had a precursor drop when I only had like 10 gold. I couldn’t afford to list it. So I did what most people in my situation do and makes sense to me. I waited until I had the gold to list it. It even encouraged me to clean out a bunch of stuff in my bank I didn’t need to raise some extra gold for the listing fee. I don’t think it is stupid at all. By the time I could afford to list it and then when it sold I ended up with almost 800 gold. There is nothing wrong with learning to exercise a little patience. Just be glad you even got a precursor. Many people never get one at all.
