I havent seen a thread on this part of the announcement, with everyone focusing on the gear treadmill that comes this weekend (or not).

Anyway, I was hoping it is something similar to the halloween event for the back item or the old Everquest 1 epic weapons (example here: http://eqthieves.com/class-enchanter-epic10.htm). I had much fun gradually collecting the parts for the epic back in EQ1. Some of the game mechanics wouldnt fit into any 2012 game obviously and some others are unsuited for GW2, but I think the core concept could well be adapted into this game.

So what are everyones expectation on this topic? Just handing one of each lodestone and any gift to an npc for the precursor of your choice, or something more involving like the mentioned quests?

I am personally hoping it is given a quest chain like the mad king’s book, but harder to complete. Maybe even make the precursors account bound so you can’t completely buy your way to a legendary.

I very much enjoyed doing several epic quests in EQ. I’d welcome a new version or update to the legendary weapons here with that kind of feel.

I feel legendaries shouldn’t be easy to obtain, but the process should be somewhat enjoyable and not the tedious farming grind that it is now. I would rather do an endless series of quests to get one than to farm the same area for weeks or months at a time.

A casual gamer would likely never have one because they would probably like to spend what little time they have to play doing something fun in the game. It’s as if people who want one are being punished and those who don’t have countless hours devoted to mind numbing repetative and boring grinding will never have one either. To clarify I don’t have a problem with working for a legendary and I like the idea of earning one with time and effort, but why make it hard to get by making it no fun at all? The road to 80 was long and took time but it was enjoyable on the way. A legendary should be no different. A game should be fun without exception. Torture should never qualify as a level of difficulty in an mmo.

Black Moa Chick v2 but with all GW2’s epicness would be so much freakin awesome.

A scavenger hunt that had a more quest-based theme and gathering very unique items would be ideal. A big grind is fine as well; maybe a moa-esque scavenger hunt mixed with what we have now would work perfectly.

Basically, atm the quest for a legendary just doesn’t feel like an epic quest. It lacks the wonderfully nerdy things like hatching the chick in the GW1 SF golem’s lava, and the unique items you had to gather. It’s a too full-on grind, without the singular epic feeling of wonder.
For me anyway :p

Legendary suggests a weapon that has a story, so I would hope for something more lore driven and less grind driven. Who made these weapons? Why? What were they used for that made them legendary? I very much welcome a quest-like journey to craft a legendary.
