So me and my friend want to make a guild hall and fully decorate it. Once I looked into it i figured out I’m about 4 members too short to even claim the guild hall let alone be able to do the events to earn points to upgrade it in the future.

What is the point of even having scribe? It requires a huge guild with tons of people donating resources so that 2-3 people in a guild of 100+ get to have fun and enjoy all of the content that a-net made for guild halls. Why don’t they lower the bar for guild halls so that 1 person can buy a guild hall for around the cost of a legendary 3-4k and can fully upgrade it and deck it out w/cool decorations. Instead it requires multiple people to do events and 10k+ gold. Why would they make all of this content so that a small subset of the population (mainly guild officers/leaders) can enjoy the content. And no donating my trophies and gold and materials so 4 other people i don’t really know can have fun in guild halls is not my idea of a good time nor is it a good developer decision in my opinion.

Why not make it like how GW1 was? where 1 person can buy a guild hall and fully deck it out for around 200-300 platinum which for gw2 would cost about 500g.

My Guild is less than 5 semi active ppl, with 1-3 contributors at any one time. We have 2 scribes and are level 40 and we aren’t full time, hardcore players.

So it is possible, but it requires a long term level of effort and time to commit to.

Yes in places it is tough going, but I’m afraid as far as I’ve ever been able to ascertain, larger guilds are the norm, not a small scale sub section, so plenty seem to benefit from the current system, not just GLs and GOs. Anet stated back during Guild Missions that larger guilds were always going to be the focus, although they have made concessions to that at times.

My guild consists of around five everyday-ish active people and a few twice-a-month fractal runners and from my experience so far I can tell you that everything is possible, but takes a lot more time and effort. Surely, large guilds are in an advantage here. And don’t get me started about the prices for upgrades and decorations, but it is possible. We claimed our hall with six people. There are around three of us mostly contributing for upgrades and decorations. And yet we’re growing and making our hall prettier every day. Personally, I’m more proud of our guild hall because we had to make bigger sacrifices than those large guilds.

I’m pretty sure that the theory behind this is that placing decorations isn’t the “only” fun of guild halls, and that just enjoying a nicely decorated hall is something that players can do.

Which, honestly, is my experience of our (large) guilds hall, which is decorated, and which most folks appreciate, enjoy the jumping puzzle in, but don’t feel the pain of not being able to do their own decorating.

The few who do … ask, and usually get, the permissions to do that.

Yeah, I must agree there.

If you ask around you can easily get some random people to help you claim a guild hall. And afaik you just need to speak up in your bigger guilds if you want decoration rights or scribing rights. If they refuse or whatever, join a different one really. You do have 5 guild slots to be fair.

There are guild missions which can be solo’d and duo’d. A 5 target trek can be solo’d if you get lucky and/or just 1 not too overly unlucky target. A single target bounty i’ve duo’d before i prefer to duo them with repping members but i’ve duo’d them with me being the only repping member and had my non repping friend there and ppl will join in…make sure you always take it by a waypoint or if you do it on a weekend plenty of ppl will be there to help you from other guilds coz they need it too. Races too can be joined it with other guilds…as long as 1 member from the guild makes it over the finish line and the race in general (15/15 crosses the finish line) the guild gets credit. Talk to the guy at the end to end the mission early. Set your mission type to pve first week and do these missions when they come up (for trek use dulfy’s guide) and with so few people donating sure favor will be skint in the beginning but you’ll soon be capped on favor you’ll be scrambling to farm for donations for your gh. New missions unlock every 10 levels and believe it or not after getting to know the trek locations even a 15 target trek can be duo’d if you’re good enough. I know a lot of the missions are biased towards bigger guilds but honestly the few that aren’t are more than enough and plenty often occurring. For the races make sure you do them on the weekends when everyone else is doing their guild missions.

Well, if you’re really good you can technically 5-6 man most guild missions. Just the bounties tend to be a bit too difficult for that. Though I remember managing it with my guild and just 2 teams of 4-5 players almost doing the 5 target bounty. So the cap is really not that high, if not fairly challenging. The rushes are pretty tough on the highest tier too but everything else is doable.

Must say that all these Zerg guild mission people do are extremely unsatisfying and boring. Though if you want just the reward that’s understandable.

Lower the bar? Hahahahaha…

Why should Anet do it now? Because people think it’s “expensive”?

They didnt do it when guild halls destroyed small scale WvW guilds by locking the only thing guild halls are actually used for behind a massive pay wall and on top of that take away all existing functionality that guilds had already unlocked.

I fail to see what good this would do now.

Yep, you don’t need a lot of people to do missions. For races and one-target bounty it only takes one person, as you can get help from other people on the map. You can even solo easy treks, if you’re lucky and have short loading times. We are able to do medium puzzles with minimum of six players, just takes a little bit of practice and communication. And with shorter supply of materials to make upgrades, you don’t need that much favour per week anyway.

So, as I’ve said before, everything takes a bit longer, but it’s doable. Have fun making your guild grow!

Looking at prices now, vs the prices at launch, it has turned at least half the price so I dunno. Coarse Sand is literally only a few coppers and Linseed Oil is down to 50-60 silver. And those were really the only things that were really annoying to get imo.

I do like the ideas of unlocking certain aspects in each game mode building to be fair, but the way they did this was akin to: "In order to give you guys more progression we’re going to completely remove your experience and let you re-level your character in Heart of Thorns from level 1. Experience gain will be halved and take double if not triple the effort. " But then obviously for a guild.

While many players would love to see small-medium sized guild halls with scaled requirements, the large guild halls are technically attainable for everyone.

As others mentioned, you simply need to recruit about 4 extra people to claim your hall. Just call out in map chat and you will likely get some helpful folks to fill out your group. Guilded Hallow is a little easier to claim, as Lost Precipice is more spread-out and has more ups and downs, the time limit may catch you. (Note that you can attempt to claim your hall as many times as needed at no extra charge.)

Why scribe? Because that’s the way to get the best decorations. If you’re really against scribing, you can buy a half dozen ‘basic’ pieces from the guild hall merchant. There are a few things to purchase with guild tokens, a couple of raid pieces, and a few festival decorations (in season only). There are also some expensive luxury items to buy from a vendor in the Lake Doric map. Generally though, if it’s really neat, it’s crafted. Those crafts aren’t transferable, either; they are bound to the scribe’s guild hall and cannot be traded or sold.

Yes, building up a guild hall is an expensive project. For just a couple of people, the task may seem very daunting. It is doable, though. If you decide to go for it, take a long view and celebrate the small triumphs.

I’ve helped several friends claim guild halls for their personal guilds. In my experience both guild halls are do-able with 5-6 people participating. None of these actually have to be in your guild, so just put up a squad, place it on lfg as “need help claiming my guild hall” or ask around among friends/in map chat, and you’re good to go. If you’ve never claimed the hall in question before, it might take a try or two before you learn the potential spawn points or if you’re extremely unlucky with spawns, but don’t get discouraged.

Leveling a guild takes a while, too, but again if you just do what’s do-able for you (small bounty, treks, races) you’ll get there in time. Even the large guilds took a while to fully build (or are still building up), you’ll get there eventually.

Good luck and have fun!
