How do you know it’s the same guy each time?

If you’re flipping I assume you’re using commonly traded materials so it seems unlikely there’s just 2 of you listing them for sale, and undercutting by 1c is pretty much standard practice.

It’s bidding on rare weapon of a specific level and his amount of item request is always the same : 80,that’s how i know it’s him/her/IT

Based on what the devs have posted, if it is a script or bot, I doubt it’s legal

If you suspect a bot, just report it and let Anet do their thing. They should be able to identify the player if you give them the item and dates/times.

This is very believable for me. A while back when I was flipping dyes there was this one instance where I’d submit a buy order and someone would outbid me by 1c immediately.

Coincidence right? That’s what I thought. Queue doing this 10-15 more times before realizing I’m trying to outbid a bot.

The trading post is just a website, so it’s possible to mod it by running your own local server as a middleman, allowing you to implement a feature such as automated buying/selling. More likely however, they’re simply using the API to watch their orders, which they could then either be handling themselves (legit) or using macros to fully automate it.

It’s certainly possible that there’s a bot/script running. It’s also possible that there’s someone manually entering the trades, responding to a script that they have, allowing them to respond rapidly — imagine someone doing homework for hours, keeping the game open and updating trades as needed.

Someone might do that to try to push competitors out of the market — as soon as you stop outbidding for longer than an hour, they’d drop their bids again.

Some folks have had success by upping their own bid by a much larger amount a few times to confuse the bots algorithm. (The risk being: you end up buying more of the item at a higher price than you want.)

It makes sense that the OP would want to submit a support ticket with the details (date+time, item name, prices|history, and screenshots to document). All the same, it won’t be something that ANet would respond to quickly.

  • If it’s not a bot, then is the person manually updating the trades really doing something wrong? (Depending, of course, on how ANet defines ‘wrong’.)
  • If it is a bot, ANet might want to observe it, to find out how it works and what other accounts use similar scripts, what they do with the items/coin, etc
  • ANet might not be able to easily tell which of the above it is.
  • If the gold amounts involved are “small”, ANet might decline to take action.

Also, Anet does not discuss the outcome of any investigations, if there is any response it will be along the lines of “thank you for submitting your report,” and you will not be told if the reported user was a bot or not, if it was banned or any such info.

It could be a case of those listings not updating immediately. I’ve seen that happen a time or two. But it would depend on what exactly it is that you are seeing.

Beep … I am not a script … Beep … I am a human being … Beep

Honestly I’ve been accused of being a bot on the TP more than once.
